After a 2 year hiatus, Madam X’s KAIZEN imprint comes back full force, with an upgraded aesthetic and brand new roster, paving the way for the next generation of leftfield, off-kilter club music.

KZN009 sees one of Manchester's most exciting up & coming producers, @Cartridgedj, mark his debut with a fierce 2 tracker, loaded with soundsystem pressure and gully 130 artillery in the Banada EP.

With an impressive back catalogue on Deep Dark & Dangerous, Albion Collective & one half of Regents alongside Manchester kingpin Strategy (Broke'n'£nglish), Cartridge is no stranger to the UK's burgeoning bass music scene.

On the A side, we have Banada, a melodic eastern-flavoured instrumental, with elements of Grime and Dubstep carrying the tune to its arpeggiated crescendo. 

A singing voice and raspy melody build the tension before a heavily distorted switch up catches you off guard, leading you further down a Dubstep rabbit hole, and into a world of shady and sinister drops, sitting perfectly alongside the label’s strictly hoods-up, heads-down tip.

Teaming up with KAIZEN heavyweight and local scene hero @Biomeuk on the B-Side, Ricky Rosé has proved a firm favourite for those peak-time, no-holds-barred, bass-in-your-face, power hour moments. Relentless in its metallic bassline and thumping 808 drums, this explosive club tool comes with a solid side-serving of gunfingers and screwfaces.

Probably the most sought after track iD over the last year, Dubstep royalty @Cimmmusic (SYSTEM / SENTRY / TEMPA) makes his KAIZEN debut with this dark & dangerous 130 heater.

The B-Side comes through with some restorative energy. Mellow grooves, floating pads, and bouncy UKG rhythms in Day 1 & It's Alright.

“If you cast your eyes and ears back to a Boiler Room set from two years ago, you might have heard the mighty @Ishan-Sound play a track called ‘Death Struggle’. That was one of the first tunes we heard from WZ’s studio - piquing our collective interest with its effectively simple ‘beats, bass and space’ recipe. We kept in touch with David over the years; following his releases on Czech collective Harmless Youth, alongside appearances on @eatmyb3at and @iolab. He hit us up with a few unsigned bits recently and his FKOF Records debut came about pretty quickly after that…

"'FKOFd038' opens with that BR track from two years ago – 'Death Struggle' – ably demonstrating our love for keeping things as simple and weighty as possible. It’s a meditative stepper, albeit with a few on-edge synths to keep you on your toes! 'Gas Out' follows, with its weighty kick and mysterious atmospherics dropping into a full-blown roller. It’s an ear-worm, but one we’ve been testing to great effect in the dance over the last few months. 'Fwaah' and 'Chambers' close WZ’s 'FKOFd038', produced in relatively quick succession together and again highlighting the Czech musician’s skills on the buttons. 'Fwaah' ratchets the tension up with its intro before revealing its powerful low end and crisp percussives. 'Chambers' is a wholly different affair with its relaxed vibe and meditative qualities.  

"We’re really excited to see where WZ and the Harmless Youth crew go and we’re even more excited to be welcoming WZ back to the FKOF Records roster for a future release very soon. We’ve enjoyed pulling 'FKOFd038' together and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do…"
