Nyx Festival 2021 - Sunrise Set

Quite simply, Gaia is life. She is all, the very soul of the earth. She is a goddess who, by all accounts, inhabits the planet, offering life and nourishment to all her children. In the ancient civilizations, she was revered as mother, nurturer and giver of life. She goes by many names, but in an effort to better connect and understand this energy, let’s explore the myriad of forms in which she appears on Earth.

Thoughts:
This is the first mix I recorded after my artistic break of two years. After a long time of change, I'm back with new energy.

It describes the return to psychedelic music and the recovery of a passion.

Mix was recorded with my new setup a Denon MCX8000.

This Zenonesque episode brings you a live set from Brazilian producer Heitor Amaral aka FRACTAL JOKE, who has been involved in music for as long as he can remember. Playing various instruments as a child and being a guitarist in bands as a teenager led him to study Music and Technology at the University of Santa Maria, where he graduated in 2018. During his graduation, Heitor discovered underground psytrance festivals, and this changed completely the path of his music. Coming from a musical background his tracks usually focus on harmonic and melodic structures, combined with a cinematic and detailed sound design and a zenonesque flavour. Fractal Joke crafts a meaningful story for every one of his tracks, using carefully selected vocals and ambience sounds, the immersive quality of his music is a signature of his style.

What an experience!! Such an honour to share the stage with so many folks I've looked up to for so long, let alone the stage its self!! Look at that!! Such a collaboration and to see myself surrounded by toggles' fine work still has me pinching myself!!

This is my set, re-recorded at home to re create the experience as best I could with perhaps a couple of tweaks. Its taken a little longer than expected but the stars just hadn't been aligning. I do appreciate the patience, though!

Big thanks to everyone that was a part of that beautiful weekend. Many stories of transformation and growth have come from New Dawn and everything the new year brings and this set was put together with this in mind. I curated this to be the soundtrack to my year, of sorts. Its been an amazing rollercoaster of a year for myself and my family, this little journey is my psychedelic interpretation of that. From raising puppies and growing our beautiful 4 legged family to relaxing in mother nature and all the chaos, hard work, repetition, joy and happiness in between! I hope you enjoy the ride!! Back in my early teens as I was first starting to explore electronic music, I had my first exposure to psytrance and came across a few different artists. The depth and complexity to the multi-layered melodies, rhythms and timbres was mesmerising and really drew me in, but it was 1200 Mics that made me fall in love with the genre. 
The high energy, tribal drum beats and plenty of powerful guitar riffs really bridged the gap between the hard rock music I grew up on and this new and exciting electronic sound.

I got my first set of decks at age 17, and learnt to DJ by playing their first three albums in every possible combination. I eventually found some great track pairings and an arrangement that flowed, and this became the first mix I ever put together and recorded. Unfortunately, however, many years ago that file was lost and never got released.
As I've been recently looking back at my origins, this seemed the most fitting time to bring this set back to life, with a few fresh additions, and pay homage to the masters of psychedelic trance whose music opened my world wide. This is dedicated to them - Riktam, Bansi, Raja Ram and Chicago.
