Unrequited Apparition

This release is a little different from my usual line, results from an obvious folk influence and turns around quite dreamy lyrics and romantic musical arrangement. The mood of this song is about allowing yourself to imagine another life, feel another world, transform one another and, by embarking this imaginary journey, actually just to be. A 3:15 minutes glimpse to a lifetime voyage towards an untethered soul…

Realizing this song brought me a very nice surprise in the form of a pleasant new collaboration. The lyrics required a female voice and I had difficulties finding the ethereal but not immaterial one I had in mind. The challenge persisted for a couple of weeks until I got in touch with Hana Pavšič - the talented Slovenian artist who covered this song with her beautiful voice and brought the extra touch to it, giving it this enchanted atmosphere I was after for this Magic spell.

"Downhill" is a rock/pop anthem rooted in the frustration and heartbreak of watching a once-stable connection unravel. Inspired (surprisingly) by a fallout with my ex-landlord, the song explores shifting dynamics, emotional confusion, and the sting of unmet expectations. While it sounds like a breakup song—and is framed like one—it was actually born from a non-romantic fallout, which is part of my songwriting signature: turning everyday conflicts into grand anthems.

Produced by Jay Ives, Downhill blends gritty rock instrumentation with a polished pop structure and a soaring, catchy hook. Its dynamic build mirrors the inner turmoil of navigating miscommunication and power shifts in any kind of relationship—romantic, professional, or otherwise. It’s for anyone who’s ever felt blindsided by someone they once trusted.

This is a simple folk song, with a simple theme: an old woman waiting on the shore for her man - who will never come back

Beschreibung: „Ein Sprung in den Himmel“ ist ein nostalgisches Heimatlied im Stil der 1930er-Jahre – komponiert als zentrales Element des Soundtracks zum biografischen Roman Hinter uns das Land von Frank Talmon l’Armée.

Dieser Song fungiert als akustisches Zeitdokument innerhalb des zweiten Albums Flight of the Light. Er vereint verblasste Agfa-Klangwelten – mit Zither, Akkordeon und authentischem Shellac-Knistern – mit sentimentalem Gesang.

Die Geschichte dahinter: Wir schreiben den Sommer 1941. Während die Welt um sie herum im Krieg versinkt, erleben Inge und ihre Freundinnen am Warschkeiter See in Ostpreußen einen letzten, trügerischen Moment der Unschuld. Es ist das "Auge des Sturms" – eine Oase der Hoffnung und des Lachens, bevor die Realität der Flucht (Buch 3) die Idylle endgültig zerbrechen lässt.

Featured on the album Flight of the Light (Book 2), this song serves as a musical time capsule. Blending faded zither melodies, gentle accordion, and authentic shellac vinyl crackle, it captures a fleeting moment of peace.

The Story: It is the summer of 1941 in East Prussia. While the war rages on the horizon, the protagonist Inge and her friends find a sanctuary at Warschkeiter Lake. For one afternoon, they laugh, swim, and ignore the looming darkness. This song represents the "calm before the storm"—a fragile memory of innocence that makes the subsequent tragedy of the escape all the more poignant.
