Paganini Variations

A new virtuosic solo for tuned percussion with brass band accompaniment. Based on the traditional English folk song Scarborough Fair, the piece opens in a mysterious style with rolled marimba chords before opening out into a modern, up-beat solo that features a quick change from marimba to xylophone. With intricate band parts, virtuosic cadenzas and plenty for the other percussionists to do, this will be an enjoyable challenge for the whole band. Held on 2nd September, Broadway and Brass was a joint venture between Lochgelly Band and Lochgelly and District Amateur Musical Association (LADAMA).  It featured music from popular musicals over the decades and was a roaring success.  Held in the Lochgelly Centre, Fife the venue was very close to capacity and its reception was one of high acclaim.  Lochgelly Band is a First Section Brass Band in Scotland who has recently competed in the top flight of bands. LADAMA is an amateur musical society who presents productions several times a year to a very high standard.  Some of its past members have become stars of the West End so talent is in abundance.  We hope you enjoy this stunning rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.
