'Grey Bar Hotel is a Berlin-based melodic house label curated by Michael Ritter and Felix E. Alongside showcases in and outside of Germany, the imprint focuses on fostering local and international artists, working with Kamilo Sanclemente, Indigo Man, Supacooks, and many more since the label’s inception in 2018. A regular performer around Berlin, Michael Ritter has previously appeared on Stellar Black, YOMO Records and Polyptych. 

Returning to his own Grey Bar Hotel for his latest release, the DJ/producer delivers four deep and moving tracks across the ‘Yawa Raf’ EP. Leading the release, the title track ‘Yawa Raf’ builds with rolling percussion amongst sparkling, discordant motifs, filtered vocals, and a rolling low-end groove. ‘Barfuss’ continues with deep kicks, a gentle bassline, and hypnotic synth lines building up to a delicate piano sequence. Rapid-fire shakers and hi-hats meet club-friendly analogue leads on ‘Cassé’, before closing track ‘Elephant’ rounds out the release with syncopated melodic elements and clever arrangements amongst gorgeous chords. Brazilian multi-instrumentalist & producer Maty Owl has captured the eyes & ears of global dancers. 2022 was a standout year for Maty, unveiling sensational projects with Saisons and Timeless Moments, plus a tantalizing remix of Erdi Irmak right here on XYZ. We are thrilled to welcome Maty Owl to our TOR with his debut EP on the label - Astral Friend.

On the A-side, White Room opens with crisp percussives and lush landscapes of sound. Afro tones flow seamlessly into the mix, with chopped vocal hooks balanced by pristine piano melodies. A bountiful bassline greets a punchy kick, offering a blissful dancefloor number for the finest of selectors & dancers alike. 

On the flip, Astal Friend welcomes progressive prominence, as effervescent & elongated synthetics capture the imagination. Surging sounds ebb & flow as Owl’s ominous tones ignite the night with afterhours flavors.

Closing out the project is VS, offering a middle ground between it’s two predecessors. Swirling synths rest upon rising melodies, elevating energy to a peak while the bassline goes to work.

Ed Steele returns on a high with more sensational music.

After a solid few years with releases on ICONYC, Mango Alley and more; the occasional DJ appearance at Noisily and Heartwood festivals, and a well-received debut album, the UK-based artist is back with three more monster tracks.

Opening with ‘Because of You’ a tough beat and arps draws you into Ed’s soundscape immediately. The first break acts as an oasis from the groove with sweet female vocals, adding new excitement. A solid vibe for the summer.

Next up, ‘Labyrinths of Reason sees Ed in deeper heads-down territory. The insistent percussions juxtaposes the low end and arps creating a palpable tension between the elements. Sawtoothed growls from the bass will activate even the most stern screwfaces.

Rounding out the EP, the title track ‘The Odyssey’ vibes from the off. Squelchy acid tones fire off in the lows acting against the sparse percussion. The epic break is where the magic happens though, this one is best served at peak time for devastating result.
