When Bobby Vee sadly passed away last year, I pulled out a couple of his late sixties albums I’d picked up over the years, dusted them off and gave them a spin.
'Come Back When You Grow Up' (1967) contained enough brilliant pop, and 'Gates Grills & Railings' (1969) flashes of baroque beauty *ahem*, for me to start having a thorough nose around his back catalogue.
My digging unearthed a few revelations, including a cover of a rare Northern soul tune and a supposed long-lost classic country album he cut in 1972, under his real name, Robert Thomas Velline.
So here’s a collection of tracks I’ve cobbled together, running chronologically from ‘67 to ‘72, touching on pop, soul, psych, baroque and the aforementioned, country y’all x
