Scott Peters, aka DJ Scott Base, has a growing status within the Auckland dance scene.  He has played at leading clubs throughout New Zealand and China and serves sounds up to pleased audiences described simply as “clean percussive grooves, deep melodies, funky baselines, soulful vocals fused with live instrumentation and tribal percussion, with a tech twist”!

Scott's DJ career spun off in the early 90's when house music was creeping into the local hip-hop scene and his music tastes were being broadened with electronic music, techno and drum & bass. 

In 1998 Scott turned professional after years of playing at underground events. He headed to China in 2000 to make an impact on its house scene. Scott was offered a residency and promotions manager position at Shanghai’s renowned DKD Bar. Here he had the opportunity to support legendary DJs such as Paul Oakenfold (UK), Claude Young (US) and Frank Muller (GER). 

Since 1997 Scott has made regular appearances on New Zealand’s top dance music radio station, George FM. Today he continues to apply his promotional and technical talents to produce and play at events such as Boogie Buffet, Funky Data and Organic and large-scale public relations and corporate events.

“I play by reading the crowd, mixing in the right sound at the right time and measure my success by the atmosphere created and people going away happy. Often I’m asked who is my ideal dance audience – as far as I’m concerned it’s anyone with an open mind, which appreciates good music from whatever genre and has a bootie to shake. When I’m not playing I’m a clubber as it’s on the dance floor that any DJ gets their inspiration.”

The New Zealand dance scene has grown rapidly and with traveling abroad Scott rates local talent on par if not ahead of many international DJs. However, he still sees the need for stronger support for upcoming and underground local DJs as there is a tendency for over exposure of the few top name DJs playing at events.
