Jump 'Funkatarium' J. Rainbow 2025 Re-rub

Back in 1988, while living in London, I was introduced to the rave scene by a DJ friend. My first rave was called Nut House on Crowland Road in Tottenham - and that’s where my journey truly began. I started mixing in 1989 using a friend’s belt-drive turntables and a Realistic mixer, eventually buying my first pair of Technics 1210s in 1990.

Throughout the early ‘90s, I immersed myself in the rave culture, attending events across London and the South East, including iconic venues like Sterns in Worthing, Raindance, Energy, Spiral Tribe, and DIY. In 1992, driven by an article I read in I-D magazine, I made the trip to Thailand to experience the legendary Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan.

My first proper gig was at an illegal rave in East Sussex, and from that moment, I was hooked. I spent nearly all my wages on vinyl, making regular weekend trips to record shops like Black Market Records, Unity, City Sounds, and Jelly Jam to get the freshest releases.

Over the years, I’ve DJed at venues such as Imperial Gardens in London and Hastings Pier, as well as holding several residencies around Eastbourne, East Sussex - where I eventually settled. Also promoting nights under the Substance banner amongst others. I’ve also played on various internet radio stations including Pirate Revival and DeepVibes, and currently host my own show on Brighton’s Decadance Radio, broadcasting on DAB across the Brighton area.

To this day, I still spin vinyl - but I’ve embraced digital too.

I've been DJing since 1985 and play a range of styles Old Skool, Breaks, all things House, Balearic etc. I love making my own edits and remixes, especially old skool. I ran & still run numerous club nights. Played at some amazing clubs and outdoor parties throughout Europe & Asia and was heavily involved in the U.K rave/free party scene and hugely inspired by D.i.Y and their ethos of parties/music. I also used to run a label & dance record shop in the 90's. I recently won the Sasha classics FB group DJ  competition and supported Ian Ossia and DJ Vertigo in Leicester/Manchester.
