Here's a recent collection of tunes I have had the pleasure of recording with Germany's superb bassist Mirko Borach - aka, Stringburner https://soundcloud.com/stringburner 

Mirko is a deep funk player, always in the pocket, and has an extraordinary sense of rhythm that he demonstrates with his playing and soloing.   His solos on Sco-Mule and Sharing the Way especially show his command and artistry.   In addition to these tunes, Mirko has recorded with a number of other top electric guitarists here on SoundCloud, including Dan van den Berg.   Enjoy these tunes, which also feature guitarists Justin Valente and Ned Bolle, keyboardists Julien Apelian and Calaminus, and flute and sax player Santi-Caballero Mendez.

Tom and I came together here to record one of my very favorite Rock tunes, Feeling Alright.  Originally written by Dave Mason and performed by Traffic, the tune was picked up by the great Joe Cocker, performed at Woodstock, and the rest is history.  A great I-IV groove that just brings home emotion.  Tom had recorded this without piano and I immediately jumped in to ask if I could add the defining part (at least for me ).  No vocals here but I threw in the trombone melody to help bring back the proper vibe.  Hopefully the passion comes through with our recording. Here's an original Latin Jazz groove that includes the very fine Spanish flutist Santi-Caballero Mendez https://soundcloud.com/santi-caballero and German bassist Mirko Borach (Stringburner) https://soundcloud.com/stringburner.  Wrote this tune with kind of a Santana groove, and think you will love what Santi-Caballero does with his gorgeous flute playing.  I have the trombone patch solos.  Route 251 is named after the classic II-V-I chord changes around which the tune is built. At the beginning, Jamie and I wanted to create a jam session with 3 keyboardists. We started the track with Calaminus at the organ solo, Jamie at the trombone patch and me at the electric piano. Later, Mirko "StringBurner" joined us on the bass, bring us beautiful bass arrangements and an outstanding solo. Thanks to Mirko and thanks to Jamie Rhind & Calaminus  for their amazing keyboards solos.

Sharing The Way - feat. Jamie Rhind - Calaminus & StringBurner

This one is quite a crazy funky fusion track! A great bass player Mirko Borach aka Stringburner(https://soundcloud.com/stringburner )came up with the idea to cover this track by Los Lobotomys, a fusion group that was formed by Steve Lukather in 1989 with some of his friends and talented players, like David Garfield.
Mirko asked Jamie Rhind (https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind) and me to join on this one to complete the blend. Jamie brought his Miles' oriented synths, I brought my loud and funk rhythm guitars. We reworked the original, added different sounds and flavours to it, turning it into "Entanglement".  All of us have one solo spot around the main theme. Quite interesting is the turn of events with a more quiet interlude after the guitar solo, something we just had to keep in from the original.

Entanglement (cover) - feat. Mirko Borach | Jamie Rhind | Dan van den Berg

Here's another collaboration just packed with funk and great players from around the world.  Represented on this tune are musicians from Germany, Spain, Scotland, France and the US (3).  Pretty sure you will enjoy this one.  It's an original funk fusion tune that lets everyone here stretch it out a bit.  Germany's Mirko Borach (Stringburner) holds down the deep groove on bass, with Barcelona's multi horn player Santi-Caballero Mendez creating the head.  Solos from Mike "Land of Orz" Orzek with a fuzzed out wah guitar, Santi-Caballero smoothing it down on sax, Scotland's finest Ian Tait bringing it back up again with his signature electric funk guitar playing, France's wonderful keyboardist Julien Apelian on a great synth patch, and then New Jersey's fine jazz guitarist Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski bringing it home with his serious Scofield funk guitar style.  Wow.  So much playing here.  Great job guys!

Delay Of Game is a soulful trio interplay between New Jersey's Mike Orzek's bluesy talking wah guitar, Germany's Mirko Borach's funky bass playing and my delayed Rhodes groove.  These guys found the pocket immediately, and together have turned out another fine one...just in time for your weekend listening pleasure.

Here's one of the most gorgeous pop ballads ever written, You Are So Beautiful, with Florence's Paolo Pieraccini's beautiful interpretation on vocals.  I don't do much here with vocalists, but Paolo's voice to me is magic - his ability to phrase, to carry a melody and to so musically bring a story to life.  And when you hear how he does this with Billy Preston's tune, which was then made famous by Joe Cocker, you too will smile.  Paolo also added the pretty keyboard saxophone intro that we have. It is with great sadness that Justin Valente and I are releasing a version of the classic Statesboro Blues just a couple of days following the passing of Gregg Allman, the leader, soulful vocalist and Hammond Organ player of the Allman Bros. Band.  Gregg was legendary, and such an important musical force with the merging of Blues, Rock, Soul, Country and Jazz, keeping the Allman Brothers band together and touring for over 40 years.  Statesboro Blues is one of their most famous recordings, released in 1971 on their seminal At Filmore East live album.  The Allman Bros. have been such an important influence on Justin's great playing, and so he's the perfect guitarist to join me to bring you this classic blues. Statesboro Blues - a tribute to Gregg Allman - with Justin Valente / guitar

Here's our take on one of Steppenwolf's classic hits, Born to Be Wild.  Always a favorite of mine, the formidable duo of Tom Adams and Paul Racle bring energy and great chops to this recording.  Tom's such a fine guitarist, and his blues rock feel brings us back to 1969.  And Paul's grooving and driving bass anchors and propels it all.  Everyone know's Paul here on SoundCloud by Paploviante, not only for his bass playing but for his creative energy, and music production across so many styles.

This track is Jamie & I jamming to Fire on the Mountain by the Grateful Dead.  A simple but catchy tune with a cool bassline, which gave me a chance to use my octave pedal and qtron :)

My first track of the year in 2020; I had no idea how prophetic it would be.  We all lost loved ones or know someone whose loved ones perished in the pandemic (still ongoing) and the heart's cry was to have "one more day" to say what needed to be said, to give them a hug or a kiss, share a laugh or a tear; to give them a fond and fitting farewell.  Annie @annie-smart-1 added a lovely vocal and piano part to this song that lifts it to another level.

We're all On the Lowdown these days, trying to understand the significance of the issues around us.   And I couldn't think of a better way to spend some time than to bring together some of my very favorite musicians I have met from around the world, with our original On the Lowdown.   Special musicians contributed to this - two exceptional guitarists from the Philadelphia area - Audric Jankauskas and Stephan Lipinski, Barcelona's Sam Mendez on tenor sax, and Germany's Mirko Borach playing the beautiful fretless bass. On the Lowdown - Mirko Borach / Audric Jankauskas / Stephan Lipinski / Sam Mendez / Jamie Rhind

Reach For The Sky is one of those collaborations that brings it all together with great musicians and great friends.  A big project that in total was more than 1GB, this soulful original gives everyone a chance to make statements and a chance for some fine ensemble work too.  Scotland's highly versatile Annie Smart so emotionally adds her voice and harmonies, Germany's Georg Boehme is on Bari Sax on this track, and Spain's Sam Mendez plays the flute.  Both weave in and out between the vocals, and above the wonderful bass of Italy's Daniele Petrocchi.  And playing guitars is Daniele Turani, also of Italy.  Everyone's in such fine form and it all gels so beautifully.  Follow each of these great players and creators.

Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.
