Dan van den Berg steals the show here on a Miles type modal groove, while breaking a high E string in the process.  See if you can find where:)  A special tune for us to toast Miles like this.  From the late 60s on Miles always had one or two super serious fusion guitar players on stage with him - John McLaughlin, Pete Cosey, Mike Stern, Barry Finnerty, John Scofield, Robin Ford and Foley. Check out Stephan Lipinski (Pinner) on this soon to be released fusion tribute to Miles Davis.  Pinner is an outstanding fusion electric guitarist who grew up in the suburbs of New York, moved outside of Philadelphia now, and who has his instrument down and then some.  An exceptional player who brings a similar angular and harmonic approach to improvisation that John Scofield did with Miles back in the '80s. Hand Of Orz - with Mike Orzek / guitar

It is with great excitement that we release this early version of Hendrix's famous Who Knows, which he recorded in the last year of his life in 1970 with his Band of Gypsies soul band.  We will be releasing the full version in a little bit with Tony Bluestone's strong vocals added, so this is just a tease for all the guitar and Jimi lovers out there.  Hendrix left the groundbreaking Experience band in 1969 and created a soul power trio with his buddies Buddy Miles and Billy Cox.  One album was released - a live album from NY's Madison Square Garden.  This is one of the great tracks from that monumental New Year's Eve night.

This recording features two of my favorite guitarists - Marco Oversteegen and Rients Draasima.  Coincidently both are from the Netherlands.  For me, Marco has the closest sound on SC to where Jimi was, and since Jimi and Miles are my two greatest musical inspirations (of many)it is something very very close to my heart.  No one plays Jimi as Marco does so he was the natural and first choice to join this.  Rients comes from a different harmonic musical world, as you will hear in his soloing and approach.  Extraordinary is a slight understatement.  We've been fortunate to have him join this, as he has been completing what will be a remarkable fusion album that is about to be released.

For this recording Rients was gracious to do the drum programming, I have recorded the bass lines (same as Billy Cox used in the original recordings), and we all solo.  You will hear me with a brief synth solo here while the rest of the playing is Marco and Rients'.

Who Knows - with Marco Oversteegen and Rients Draaisma

For those of you who haven't discovered Orlando "The Don" Lund, here's your opportunity.  Orlando is a serious pro, having built a career as a writer, multi instrumentalist and producer in London during the '90s Soul Funk era, leading and creating with some of the finest contemporary jazz and funk musicians in Europe. Orlando approached me about playing on a tune I had released here, What the Funk, quickly sending 5 tasty tracks to me - a solid grooving bass line, a congas line, two rhythm guitar tracks and a George Benson style guitar solo. Here's another original, Get Funky With Me, with grooving jazz guitarist Scott Nelson bringing it home.  We've set the tune up as a soul jazz groove with rhodes and piano, trading off with Hammond B3 organ and Scott's super tasty electric guitar.  Scott is new to SoundCloud, hails from Pennsylvania, and is simply a superb guitarist and musician.  On this track he brings a definitive John Scofield influence, reminding me of Sco's electric work on A Go Go, with organ and keyboard player John Medeski's group. It is always something very special to me when the great Alan Schulman and I get together.  Al is one of the most talented and soulful jazz guitarists I've every played with, and he brings so much to this new original Long Time Coming.  Check out Al's superb rhythm guitar playing as well as his super tasty guitar chops and soloing.  Al's shared the stage and performed with guys like Herbie Hancock, Charles Earland, Wynton Marsalis, and Anita Baker, and studied with Pat Metheny and others.  Super talented in digital marketing, super creative and also has a world class knowledge of guitars, and as positive a person as I have ever met.  The real deal.  Currently Al is back from an extended tour of India with his wife Stacey Lynn Schulman, a jazz vocalist extraordinare, and perform regularly together in and around New York City. Long Time Coming - with Al Schulman / guitar

The funkiest guitar player on SoundCloud is BACK, with this grooving original, Can't Get Enough Of You.  Scotland's finest has teamed up with Germany's super funky slap bass marvel Mirko "Stringburner" Borach, creating what I can only say reminds me of one of the all time greatest tunes, Mountain's Mississippi Queen.  But Mountain never had a rhythm section playing with this much funk!  Ian's letting me do my thing on keyboards, and you can hear me soloing in the right channel, trying to hold my own over this nasty rocking blues.
