Noise of the World

Miserable Today (Hooray!) feat. HMS

So much fun to have musicians all over the world play together, and this jam includes three of my very favorite guitarists and musicians here on SoundCloud...Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Justin Valente.  These guys can all light up a stage, and graciously came together for this funky collaboration.  If you aren't following them all you should be - you'll be getting fresh tracks almost every day from each.  Tom and Justin are both from the US (Austin and NYC), and Ian hails from Edinburgh, Scotland.   For our Summer Funk Jam here, we started with a very funky internet backing track, allowing everyone to dig in and do their thing.  You'll recognize each of the guys' styles if you've been listening to their galleries, and together it makes for some serious Summer Funk.  Thanks guys for all the ongoing support - each of you help bring out the best in SoundCloud.  Make that SoundCloud FUNk. It is a great honor to introduce this special musical project set to the powerful and beautiful poetry of the extraordinary Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. This work was made possible with the kind permission of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation.
I want to give special thanks to the remarkable soprano Maribel Villarroel, whose stunning voice gave life and soul to each piece. Her deeply personal interpretation and awe-inspiring vocals brought authenticity and passion to this music. I am equally grateful to the brilliant pianist and arranger René Calderón, whose sensitivity and artistry are infused into every note. Their talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit have taken this project to levels I could only dream of as a composer.
Gabriela Mistral’s poems speak to the heart with timeless emotion, strength, and depth. Creating music for her words was both a challenge and a privilege, an emotional journey that led us to deep connections with her legacy and message.
The visual side of this release is also something I’m excited to share. The album cover was created by the outstanding Chilean artist Giovanni Gellona, whose artwork beautifully reflects the emotion and atmosphere of the music and Mistral’s poetry, and projects both her dignity and lovingness.
This album is not just a musical interpretation; it is a tribute to Chilean culture, poetry, and artistic collaboration. I hope listeners around the world can feel the love, effort, and respect behind every note.
I invite you to experience Gabriela Mistral’s poetry through this musical lens and share it with others who might be moved by it.

Fina, la medianoche.
Oigo los nudos del rosal:
la savia empuja subiendo a la rosa.

Oigo
las rayas quemadas del tigre
Real: no le dejan dormir.

la estrofa de uno

Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.  Key musical influences include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, Chick Corea and Return to Forever, John McLaughlin and the Mahivishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Emily Remler, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Young, Buddy Guy, Santana and Earth Wind & Fire.   Former classical clarinet and piano player.  Unless noted, my music on SoundCloud was composed, recorded and performed using only keyboards.  An avid photographer.  Many covers here are my shots.
