@vladaroo: thanks as always.  Sure am proud.  The soloing could have been a bit cleaner but more important to me was the overall sound, and captured that well.  Have you seen McCoy?  His work with Trane's quartet is superb and groundbreaking.  He has an album of standards recorded when he was 20 in the very early 60s that is burning too.  Everything is.  He even recorded with Santana

Who are your musical inspirations and mentors?  It is so important for musicians to have mentors and true inspirations, who have helped shape the music each of us creates and plays.   I've done 8 tributes so far for SoundCloud for some of my very favorites - Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Paco de Lucia, Carlos Santana, McCoy Tyner, Joe Zawinul and even SoundCloud's own Tom Adams.  Several of the tunes here include other fine SC musicians - Joe Bongiovanni on guitar on the Santana and Justin Valente on guitar in our tribute to Tom Adams. Check out his recordings with John Coltrane from the early '60s, and the power and creativity of his lines, using highly percussive fifths and fourths in his left hand, and fourths and pentatonic scales in his right.  One of the most important jazz pianist of the 20th century, McCoy continues to inspire to this day...

Thought I'd throw a quick tune together riding the train out to New York's beautiful Hamptons, and pulled this off with my midi controller and a laptop.  Surprised the people walking by on the train, but what the hell!  Probably the first tune ever recorded on a train:).  Here's a simple I-IV groove in C that just works (they always do:)) Thanks to Joe Cocker for his seminal Feeling Alright.  One of my favorite grooves.  Same type of vibe here.  Seems like the right atmosphere to go into the holiday weekend.  All done on keyboards.  Thanks as always for listening and commenting.  

Smile - Tribute to Joe Cocker

It's Friday so why not throw up some funk!  There is no one deeper than Herbie Hancock, so I created this funky tune as a tribute to Herbie.  Such an important influence he was across so many genres.  Herbie is the consummate musician.  A fellow native of Chicago, Herbie soloed with the Chicago Symphony at around age 12, started producing his own albums on Blue Note before he was 20, joined the legendary Miles Davis quintet in '64, and brought electronic keyboards with the Rhodes to Miles with the famous Miles Smiles album, then pioneering electronic keyboards in the late 60s with In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew.  Miles had an album Get on Up With It, which is where I took the name from - a common phrase back in the late 60s and 70s..that James Brown of course used with his funky Sex Machine hit.  In addition to his incredible influence with Miles, Herbie left him around '72 to form the Headhunters, which then created what still is the best selling "jazz" album of all time - with Chameleon and so many other classics.  Herbie has meant so much to me that we named our first Beagle Herbie Hancock.  And was Herbie amused when I met him at a party and told him that.  Anyway, here's Get on Up.  I've used a real nice backing track with Swiss guitarist Hanspeter Kruesi https://soundcloud.com/music-pictures to set the groove and then added a number of keyboard and Miles like muted trumpet lines to bring it to life.  Get on Up!

Return to the Light (cello, solo viola, viola sections and piano)

The basic bed tracks of this composition were done back in 2013 with just piano and cello and then placed carefully and hopefully on the back burner. I then decided to resurrect it as it just seemed to resonate recently, so I added some other solo viola and minimal viola section parts. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did composing it. 

I must add that the cello part is a virtual instrument called Blackus. At the time in 2013 it was in beta form, and programmed for Kontakt Sampler by an “actual” cellist from Australia by the name of Blake Robinson. And best of all, it was free. The little VI company Embertone picked it up later on and developed it further, but I really like the sound of the original version as well. Grit and all. The solo viola is by Audio Modeling. 

The title, Return to the Light was inspired in part by the condition of the world in 2025 as it seems to be heading to a very uncertain and dangerous place. I feel that eventually we will realize that we can’t keep doing things with unprecedented greed and corruption. Our technology is also getting much too advanced for our collective maturity especially in the war department. Science and technology when used for good is a very good thing but for some it is becoming the new God. Science without morals or caring is just materialism, but to be fair, spirituality, religion/morals without science can be superstition. They must agree.

Une Histoire

'Shadows In Fallen Clouds' Chemtrails are covering our skies worldwide daily. These chemtrails contain a mixture of chemicals and heavy metals. Most of the worlds population appear to think that these chemtrails are clouds or contrails and some are even oblivious to their very existence. However I am not and am well aware that what is being sprayed artificially in the upper atmosphere, won't stay there for long and will soon succumb to gravity. So then these chemtrails start to fall to earth, with their pollutant toxins. We are then breathing these in and eating the food produced from the contaminated ground and drinking the water. 
My track then 'Shadows In Fallen Clouds' is my protest to this assault on the earth and every living thing on it.

an older tune I cleaned up a bit
it is a tribute to actor, singer, dancer, artist, and author Russ Tamblyn, who turns 91 in December.

I wrote the song around the time I retired from my  medical career. So  along with references to  Russ and childhood memory, there are veiled allusions to this strange  new exciting but a bit unsettling life circumstance in the lyric.

As per Russ 
He danced and acted in Westside story  and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers most famously but was in a bunch of movies in the 50s and 60s.. and ....my favourite as a kid was the War of the Gargantuas, which  for Russ was a creative low point ..but  it got him to Japan
