Born the youngest of ten children, raised in Southwest Detroit and a resident of Nashville since 2005, Jack White is one of the most prolific and renowned artists of the past fifteen years.

When the White Stripes started in 1997 no one, least of all Jack, ever expected that a red-and-white two-piece band would take hold in the mainstream world. With the release of 2001’s White Blood Cells the band was thrust on magazine covers and captivating audiences through worldwide touring. “Fell in Love With a Girl” served as the band’s breakthrough hit and its accompanying Michel Gondry Lego clip was chosen by Pitchfork Media as the #1 music video of the 2000’s.

The release of Elephant in 2003 not only cemented the band’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with, but it also offered the hit “Seven Nation Army” which has since become appropriated as a de facto stadium chant for many sports teams the world over.

In 2004 White teamed up with Loretta Lynn to produce and perform on her Van Lear Rose album, an effort that won Grammy’s for Best Country Album and Best Country collaboration with vocals for the single “Portland, Oregon.” To date White has won nine Grammys in seven different categories.

White formed a “new band of old friends” the Raconteurs in 2006 and their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers showed a markedly different side, most notably one where songwriting, vocal and guitar duties were shared. The success of their debut-single “Steady, As She Goes” proved that White’s previous accomplishments were no fluke.

To take it even further, in 2009 White took to his original instrument, the drums, and started the Dead Weather with members of the Kills, Queens of the Stone Age and the Greenhornes. Releasing two albums in two years and unleashing a dark, captivating live show upon curious audiences, the Dead Weather futher-cemented Jack White’s musical versatility and range.

Also in 2009, White opened the doors to his very own record label, Third Man Records, where he has produced over 120 records in less than three years. Spanning artists as varied as Jerry Lee Lewis, the Smoke Fairies, Wanda Jackson, Black Milk and Stephen Colbert, the label has quickly developed a reputation as a leader in the vinyl record industry.

In January 2012 White announced the upcoming release of his debut album Blunderbuss which will be accompanied by extensive touring across the world.

Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, Jan started drumming at the age of 12. His first musical influences were Nirvana and The Beatles, which formed the base for his powerful, yet always song oriented playing. He was soon recognized by the local music scene and joined the rockband “Mellow Sirens” for their national debut. At the age of 19 he was already touring Germany, playing high-profile events like "Rock am Ring" and "Hurricane" festival. 

In 2000 he moved to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to study drums at the Conservatoire of Rotterdam. Over the last 10 years Jan has worked with many national and international producers and artists such as Mike Garson (David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails) and George Kooymans (Golden Earring).

Besides his work as an independent drummer, he is the backbone of Austin, Texas based artist Patricia Vonne since 2010. In 2013 he played with her more than 50 shows all over Europe including the famous “Montreux Jazz Festival”. 

Besides his work as a drummer Jan is gaining a very good reputation as a producer in the Rotterdam-based studio community “Real Music Room”.

ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER—and the most inspiring

Street of Street and Stone rediscovers his roots as far away from home as possible, producing the new album “Turn” 

 
Leaving behind what is vital to one’s well being: sometimes it has to be done.    From complex to simple—from Amsterdam to log cabin in Northern California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. One of Holland’s best bassists Peter van Straten, who worked with artists like Nina Hagen, Billy Preston and Eric Burdon, turns his back on his comfortable life and journeys west, in an attempt to get back to the roots of it all. 

“I had a good thing going, a great way to make a living but not to feed the soul.  ” says Street, the name by which van Straten now goes. “I needed to do something new, something less self-centered. I needed to meet new people and work with my hands in a different environment.”

Disregarding the music scene for a while, Street found himself doing manual labor in a vineyard. Realizing the growth he was experiencing, he purchased a piece of land with a log cabin on it—the place where the urge to write new music resurfaced. 

Next came the crucial moment in which Gerry Rafferty—for whom Street had played some of his songs—told him he needed to sing his own songs rather than write them for someone else. This was the turning point.

“I started writing with no particular end point in mind, just something different,” says Street. “For the first time, the journey was more important than the destination. It was about the joy of the moment.” After three years, this left him with nearly forty songs of which a mere 
twelve were chosen for “Turn.”

“All songs were now recorded at my home studio, and the idea of releasing an album suddenly seemed a necessity. To get it out of my system and into the world so to speak,” says Street. For the mixing and mastering, he contacted his friend and engineer, Frans Hendriks, in Holland. Frans had converted an old farmhouse into a studio. Just a few minutes from the place Street grew up, it seemed the perfect space to combine new and old—fresh inspiration and familiar musicians.

 

The farmhouse became Street’s “new home” for a few weeks. “The vibe was great,” he says. “Frans and I went over a list of musicians I knew from the past to see who we wanted to collaborate. It all worked out very organically, and made me realize that from now on I would work with a collective of musicians.” A link between solitude and the world out there...hence the transition from Street to Street and Stone. 

Thus, on “Turn”, the debut album of Street and Stone, we hear the Pedal Steel and Acoustic guitars of Rene van Barneveld (Urban Dance Squad), Wurlitzer Piano and Hammond Organs by Nico Brandsen (Kane), the unique Electric Guitar layers of Wouter Planteijdt (Sjako) and Drums by life long friend Leon Klaasse (Powerplay, Pilgrims).

Alex Ayuli of A.R. Kane / MARRS wrote most of the lyrics. This would be a surprise only to those who didn’t know Street and Ayuli had been collaborators for years. Street’s layered low end gracing a couple of the late A.R. Kane recordings. 
But that was then and “Turn” is very much now.

Reveller is a new Dutch pop duo formed by Sven Sterk and Ramon de Wilde. Their catchy songs balance between cool melancholy and upbeat cheerfulness. Reveller’s Music is accessible and honest but manages to move you nevertheless. Their real-life narrative lyrics convey a positive message; however, every now and again their implications leave a bittersweet taste.

The band has taken their name from the famous British racing horse that won races time after time at the St.Leger Stakes in days gone by (1818).

Live

On stage, the two musicians are supported by a live band consisting of a group of renowned musicians who have won their spurs in music. They are drummer Rob Klerkx , keyboardist Evert Aalten and bass player Rob den Tuinder. The band play their music with a bit of an edge to it. Reveller have already made their mark in their short existence and they have performed at pop venues like Patronaat (Haarlem) , Tivoli (Utrecht), de Vorstin (Hilversum), de Kade (Zaandam) and Victorie (Alkmaar). The band have been a guest on radio programmes like Slam FM, Tros Muziekcafé (Radio2) and 3FM and they stole the show at NH Pop, het Geheim van Starsound and Mooie Noten.

Hold the Horses

Their biggest achievement was when they were asked to do the title track for the Paul Verhoeven movie ’Steekspel’. The song ‘Hold the Horses’ was selected from a large number of entries during the famous director’s film project ‘The Entertainment Experience’. The band were guests at the movie’s premiere at Tuschinksi cinema and later they put on an impressive performance at the after party in the Escape.

Debut album

The guys also know their way around the studio and have recorded 4 EPs and two singles in different studios. In the summer of 2013 they went back into J.B. Meijers’ studio in Amsterdam but this time to record their debut album. Their chosen producer is Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star, R.E.M.) as they enjoyed working with him when they recorded ‘Hold the Horses’.

Sound

Working with Ken Stringfellow has improved the band’s identity. And they love showing their true colours both live and in the studio, Although Reveller’s alternative pop music is inspired by the work of legends like David Bowie, Gerry Rafferty, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, they have their own incredibly strong sound. And with their debut album in the bag, they are ready to take their music to the next level.
