Bassist Marcel Trenchard did not come to practice that night, so there is no bass guitar on the recording. The band only had one guitar amp at the time (the Ampeg amp that Brian Patton still uses in EYEHATEGOD to this day), so Brian is on guitar on the first two songs, & Donovan plays on the last two. The voices heard at the end of the recording are that of Donovan's grandmother (the band practiced in her garage) & Donovan's first child, who was about one year old.

Soilent Green - Practice '89

Stressball was a power metal band from New Orleans in the '90s & early '00s. They released a self-titled album in 1994 on Pavement Records. In 1995, drummer Joe Fazzio left the band to join Superjoint Ritual and Hank III. He was replaced by Jeremy Falgoust, who had played in a death metal band called Infant Slug. While sticking to their power metal roots, the band also added a bit of blues influence. This is an unreleased demo tape that they recorded in '00. It was digitized off of a cassette tape that Jason Pizzolato has had in his possession since the demo was recorded. He recorded his copy from Stressball guitarist, Lennon Laviolette. The death metal band that Jason played guitar for in the '90s, Apostasy, played two shows with Stressball.

Whether it be a first trip across the planet, the inspiration of a timeless and nearly faceless album of simple beat/bass/drone/drift, or programming beats with whatever electronic boxes could be find, the team behind HAVE DEMONS have dialed it backwards. A first salvo fired together is on offer, deriving from the origin point of their electronic composition collective consciousness. Submerged, Luke Lund (https://soundcloud.com/weight-less) and nem0 are the team in question here, and the HAVE DEMONS project began on a whim and yielded the most serious return to dark hop with their "Fire Consumes Thin Air" EP. 

Portland’s Submerged, the originator of the legendary Ohm Resistance (https://soundcloud.com/ohm-resistance), alongside You Will Choose Fire bandmate, Montana beat maven and synth programmer nem0, collided with Luke Lund, the progenitor behind Finland’s Terranean net label, and managed to connect all the dots between them and fuse together four stylish tracks of heavy-slab beat-work. HAVE DEMONS is a cross cultural electronic production team, from the Northwest Coast of the USA to Southwest Finland, constructing the most isolationist, bass heavy, non-conforming beat structures in the current decade. And it all harkens back to an era when all 3 began consuming and composing a style nearly lost to the ages: dark hop.

For fans of Scorn, Mothboy, NOS, Hednod, WordSound, OCOSI, Horchata, these are not simply derivative pastiches of a forgotten time. "Fire Consumes Thin Air" answers the question most of us have never asked - what if the dark hop era had continued to the present day? "Sonic Electronic Terrorism for the Mentally Disturbed" ™

My listeners are presented with heavy, beat-driven, dark ambient dub. I've been listening to heavy music in one form or another for as long as I can remember. My older brother turned me on to Kiss, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc. when I was about three years old. At the age of twelve, I got my first guitar & started the death metal band Apostasy a few years later. We recorded a well-received cassette & played several live shows with friends' bands like Soilent Green, Flesh Parade, Paralysis, & Mule Skinner. Apostasy eventually broke up, but my love of music has never faded. I still play & write on guitar, but I've always loved the darker side of electronic music, too. The heavy dub of acts such as Scorn & Coil persistently intrigued me, & I found the sounds & visuals of experimental industrial artists (SPK, Swans, Dissecting Table, Nocturnal Emissions, etc.) to be awe-inspiring. So, in late February of 2013, I decided to start something of my own: Mind of God. All of you are invited to come along on this ride with me; you just might enjoy it. I know I do.
