I present my second arrangement of an original song by James Rivas.

Jimmy came up with this song in a stripped down version with Keys and vocals and the song immediately stroke me, when I heard it the first time and I also knew, that I would like to create an orchestra-arrangement for it like I did with „You and I“. „Here comes the rain“ is very dramatic and romantic song and a great example of Jimmy’s songwriting-talent. 
I developed the arrangement in the Sibelius notation software with a lot of reharmonization and independent contrapuntal voices and I extended the song with a long instrumental outro-section. Then I went on with the production in Logic. The topic „rain“ inspired me to use some pizzicato-sections, tremolo and Triangel to paint a musical picture of rain. At the end you can even hear some musical lightnings. All in all the result seems to be a blend of european classical music around 1900 and american broadway-tradition.

Recording notes: I was never totally happy with the brass of my VSL Special edition, so I purchased a few months ago brass-samples from Samplemodeling.

This song features a combination of both products. The brass is generated with Samplemodeling, while all other sounds are from VSL Special edition. Maybe you ask yourself, why I am not recording the violins myself. Well I tried years ago to achieve a violin-group with multi-tracking and the experiment failed. It’s not possible to recreate an ensemble-sound with just a single instrument. Each player plays slightly different. Each player has another violin, which sounds different. In an usual orchestra you have a group of twelve first and twelve second violins, so you would have to use twentyfour different violins and I am sure it would still not sound like a group. A single violin is very different. In this case the samples are (Thank god) not as convincing as the real player.
This is my third attempt to produce for full orchestra after „Deacon Blues“ and „You and I“ and I am still learning regarding Sample-libraries.
