DJ Promoter of Back In The Dark. Bournemouth
Back in the Dark is the creation of the “DeepBlue Sessions” organisation, one of the South coasts longest running Deep House collectives.

Based at Bournemouth’s only true Underground club “The Winchester” since 2010, BITD has seen the likes of Andre Lodermann, Craig Smith of 6th Borough Project, Sam Hardaker from ZERO 7, Jimpster Matt Masters Norn de Plume of Freerange Records and Milton Jackson grace the “DEEPBLUE HIFI”, our custom built Kv2 Soundsystem that was obtained to give the djs and punters alike an unrivalled Audio experience at the BITD parties

A Northerner by heart, a Northerner by nature, DJ Mark J oozes friendliness like he’s just been smacked round the face with it. “I’m a very friendly guy, a lot of DJs have big egos. I don’t.” And with this friendly nature comes the kind of ‘go easiness’ that we all could do with a little more of. “My prerogative is, I play cool music, to cool people. And if they like it, then that’s cool too!” Mark J’s definition of cool music is deep , funky, soulful house, 
Originating from Hull, Mark J quickly familiarised himself with this kind of music in the early eighties,soul, disco travelling to the big Northern cities where “good all-nighters” were the place to be. “I fell in love with the music, the lifestyle and the people so I wanted to bring a little of it back home.” Dipping into his pockets to fund a hobby, Mark J purchased a set of DJ decks and started his journey. Playing soul funk n disco i soon fell into the early house groove. Playing at Welly Club Hull, then various warehouse parties in and around Yorkshire. “It was all about house music for me. ” I love all styles of house as long as its got a fat bass line and nice vocals. Also a producer/re-mixer in his own right under the moniker Alliance DC/Awakening, Bob has produced and remixed for a variety
of labels which includes SuSu, Slip N Slide, Defected, RCA, 4 Liberty and Sony amongst others.
Bob has worked on productions and remixes with the likes of Toploader, Mary J Blige, Sounds of Blackness,Erica Badu, ATFC, Axwell, Juliet Roberts, Colonel Abrams, Loleatta Holloway, Adriana Evans, Sabrynaah Pope amongst a host of other artists for Alliance DC Productions.

A Long time music collector and Black Music buff, Bob has been collecting music since the age of 13. You do not want to take this man on in a music quiz!!

His DJ Career started at the famous Sneeky Petes a club that pionered Black Music along side DJ's Chris Brown, Pete Tong and Sean French to name just a few.Also was a major pioneer cf championing Jazz music on the South Coast, Bob then spent time in Los Angeles as he would quote “I was collecting more records and drinking” before returning to the UK at which time he hooked up with Paul Brady who was resident of the Hop Inn Bournemouth who encouraged Bob to get out and Dj again as he quoted "you have all these tunes dude and they aint being heard" so they started the famous night "Midweek Sport Special" at the Artful Dodger and the Sunday sessions at Pumphreys, Bob also went to DJ at Madisons along side DJ's Paul Gotel and DJ Punk Roc among others, championing the musicical styles of New Jack Swing, Rap, R&B, Soul and early house music as well as dropping the jazzdance cuts at certain gigs....

One of his Brother's is Squala Orphan the renowned New York Rapper who worked with Gangstar amongst others.......

Other club conquests of Mr Povey was the infamous Artful dodger nights and London's “To the Bone” along side Bobby and Steve, Simon Dunmore, Norman Jay, Bob Jones etc and the original Bournemoth Weekenders which he re-launched with Bob Masters.
Bob was then asked by Alex Lowes to be a regular at the legendary Southport Music Weekenders and in 1992 co-launched the now very famous Bump N Hustle nights.

Having also worked at Back to Basics, Garage City, Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher, Thompsons Garage, Pacha, Es Paradis, Eldavino, Southport Weekender and To The Bone.Thompsons Garage, L'America etc and touring many others with the successful Bump N Hustle brand.

This long and rewarding career in music has seen him grace the decks alongside many greats past and present
