Overcoming adversity and many of life’s curveballs in pursuit of the real art of hip-hop & the true love of his craft, solo wordsmith Jay Balbuena has learned to transform troubled-times into rhymes that have set him free entirely.

Born in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico in the early 90’s, his family made a move to Southern California where Jay would spend the majority of his childhood. Moving around the notoriously bad areas of South Cali like Inglewood, Huntingdon Park and Compton, the family eventually settled in South Central L.A. just before the turn of the millennium. The new-found stability finally led to some peace of mind, and the young Jay Balbuena began to first discover his talents and connections to the arts.

Beginning with poetry in the 7th grade and recording his first song by the 9th, Jay had begun his venture into a musical career early on; and though at times would be forced to put his rhymes aside in life as he grew into a man, the desire to hold the mic has never left his side. After moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where he now resides, Jay was able to take his experience and form the Street Mayhem Entertainment band – a group created with other inspired local teenagers making music together between 2008-2010, just prior to the birth of his first child.

Balancing family life and music didn’t come easy at first, proving that both were true labors of love. Briefly performing in the South Omaha Boyz in between 2010-2012, Jay and band-member Ghost Garcia released the Hunting Season mixtape in 2011, generating huge buzz from their single “In The South O.” But even though things were constantly rolling in the right directions for Jay and his music-career, it still wasn’t his time; his time is NOW.

Picking up the mic where he dropped it in 2014, this humble poet writes from a therapeutic aspect in efforts to heal and express life from the inner soul. Combining his poetry with beats that bump with rhythm, energy & emotion – Jay Balbuena isn’t attempting to make a career out of finding the next hit single or sound; he writes what’s REAL with lyrics and rhymes that match the movement of a song through exceptional tone, iconic delivery and genuine passion for the music. Currently working on a brand-new set of vibrant, dynamic & versatile beats to put his poetry to for release later this year – you can currently find him rhyming and refining new tracks in the studio all throughout 2015. Ready to release new songs into the world online; Jay has the insight of knowing real art can be subjective.
