Without your mother considers the nature of absence within maternal relationships. An absence is a state or condition in which something expected, wanted or looked for is not present. We begin our lives looking for our mothers. Do we ever stop looking for them and do they ever stop looking for us? As we grow, we make attempts to detach ourselves in order to become independent and live adult lives. What remnants of this relationship that defines our early lives remain in the distance of adulthood? Amid absence, our memories morph, the details become duller and distorted over time and we’re left with a summarised version of what might have happened, similar to a photograph. Some edges will blur and some will sharpen until those are the only parts we can remember.

This mix is dedicated to opening. I had the good fortune to open for two fantastic events @Qaotiq-sf and Ever Afters - this mix contains a lot of tracks from the former with some new stuff I’ve been on sprinkled in there. I’ve found that opening allows for a little more creative freedom, giving space for a borderless dynamic. Attempting to recapture the essence felt on the floor is a fool’s errand, but I tried my best to record this while putting myself in that headspace. 

Been sitting on @MattBrownell’s words that opening for special events is a lot like being a Master of Ceremonies. Setting the table for the night. Imagine I’m watching people fill into the open floor, slowly welcoming attendees to the beautiful digital sound forest created by Envelope Soundsystem and @loafbkr. The beats are spaced out in parts, moody, up-tempo moments that come and go. (My happy place, tbh) The night is early, there’s a long way to go, and here is the first leg of your journey.

Frequency Machine is a project developed by David Ricardo Lozada González. DJ/Producer and Artist, originally from the city of eternal spring, Medellín/Colombia.
 
Born in the late 90s, his project is deeply focused and inspired by musical diversity, influenced by ambient, experimental, deep, dub and hypnotic techno music.

The idea of Frequency Machine is to be able to generate musical culture for everyone around it.

He has been part of releases in Granular Spectrum, Sinapsis. He has also made appearances on Habitat Musical Records with his alternate project ‘Individuo Atemporal’

Trip#18: Frequency Machine

Øbsidiaän (@obsidiaan) is the duo project formed by the Mexican-born, Barcelona-based artists Hector Tlaseca and Yves Del Rio. They produce their own music which they perform live as well as delivering solid and consistent DJ sets, where they explore sounds, rhythms and textures ranging from Ambient to Techno. As part of their sonic exploration, they also run the label “Feinkost Records” (@feinkostrecords) aiming to give an outlet to like-minded artists with a serious proposal in music making.

The BONE X IKLECTIK Festival aims to establish a creative bridge between London and Barcelona, allowing local communities to discover the projects that are being generated in both cities. We proudly present this live-recording of Nikos; that serves as a journey through the more chilled out vibes of his electronic music pallet. 

Using playful and hypnotic sounds, Nikos likes to create and play music that encourages movement and a listening experience. In his live sets he moves between fast rhythms and slower beats, bringing soft and hard sounds together. He has also encapsulated his versatile sound in his first EP ‘Metaturnal’ released on Flippen Disks.

As a producer and visual designer he is interested in how both disciplines can complement each other such as in his audiovisual project UMBRA. Nikos likes to organize listening events in a relaxed setting, which he does throughout The Netherlands, under the name of Pelagic Ambient.
