If you've been following my Blues piano tunes for a while, you'll know that it was a style of playing that captivated me as a child/teenager.But it's only been in recent years that I feel I'm getting deeper into the genre & finding all the nooks & crannies I never noticed before. Maybe I'm maturing as a musician, or maybe I've just got a thick head & it's taken this long to knock it into me :) Enjoy this improvisation, based on the 12 Bar Blues motif & get to understand why I needed to crawl before I could walk.

Namu is a polymetric piece. In the mainriff you can hear establishing successive a  5/8, 5/4 and a ¾ Rhythm and they are playing for a short time together with each other. In the rest of the piece, the meter is changing between 5/4, 6/4 and ¾. Enjoy listening.

Since Covid 19 has been around, our state in Australia has been through various lockdowns. Some have lifted, to then be applied again, as numbers unfortunately rose. Since being at home in isolation, the only thing that denotes a difference in my life is Night & Day, otherwise, each day rolls into the next. This piece of music was born of these feelings.

Night & Day

Time is different in music.
 Close and friendly it is drifting by
sometimes flying, sometimes even 
standing still, but never passing. 
Nothing gets lost – the first tone 
is not older than the last one.

All music is child of its time, but not bound by time. 
It arises from moments and lives in people.  
Listening to music you make it your own.
