A couple quick tracks I slapped together using Spitfire's excellent new LCO orchestral library. Neither are what I would consider finished tracks and they weren't composed with anything specific in mind; I've only scratched the surface of what LCO can do, but it's a super playable and intuitive library and I can't wait to use it more. It's been a while since I've used a library that's inspired me this much right off the bat!

Both tracks use the same three “extended technique” patches; Violin, Cello, and Basses + Celli Long Techniques. The first track uses the ‘Vivid Long’ articulation for the Violin and Cello patches and the ‘Long Harmonics’ patch for the Basses + Celli. The second track has the same layout aside from the Cello, where I used the ‘Long Harmonics’ articulation.

Very, very minimal processing. No EQ or compression aside from a limiter on the master bus that I didn’t wind up needing (ceiling set to -0.6db, threshold untouched) and some light saturation just for a tiny bit of added ‘shimmer’ courtesy of the IVGI plugin by Klanghelm. I routed the strings through some reverb (Freeverb 3), though I could have easily just relied on LCO’s existing reverb. All the patches were played with their default mic load-up and stereo width. I panned each channel a little bit, but again, it was minimal -- highest was just upwards of 10% right or left.
