Stigmates #1 - Andrew Claristidge & The Claydermans - And Now You Dance

The 90’s rave scene embodied a sense of freedom, defiance, energy, and diversity. Konvic’s track, ‘Dove Days’ celebrated that with a hard techno edge and spoken vocals by DeepDownDirty label boss and founder Maya Stone.

Fast forward seven years from the release of ‘Dove Days’ (and as DeepDownDirty fast approaches its tenth year of existence) and Konvic has put together a full album’s worth of eclectic new music to complement the original track, bringing it bang up-to-date with hiphop-edged techno in ‘Escape Key’ featuring Melee; a drum and bass duo of tracks in ‘We Need Love' & ‘Aura’, which both feature TiaSun; and 'Gaia’, with its hard neuro-influenced riff.

Amongst the techno you can also find the bouncy ‘Moroccon Nights’, with its North African-influenced vibe; an acid techno collaboration with Alf E James, ‘Rhythm is in my Mind’; the pulsating groove of ‘Dance’, the third track to feature TiaSun; the vibrant chords of ‘Keep Walking By’; the underground feel of ‘Exit Light'; and the subversive ‘Don’t Be Afraid’, a collaboration with Coqui.

This is music that celebrates the liberating, hedonistic 90’s rave scene with a futuristic edge. Its euphoric, rebellious and wild. It embodies great dance music in its all its glorious variety across the eleven tracks. As Maya says on ‘Dove Days’, “It didn’t matter who you were or what you did, we were united by the music,”.

'Dove Days’ the LP stands as a reminder and testament of how true that still is.

Part of Amsterdam's new fresh faced school of techno and already affiliated with Rush Hour, Dekmantel, Tape Records, Voyage Direct – it's Interstellar Funk. His latest undertaking and his first on the Rush Hour label, Electric Park Square, brings six tracks of mystical machine sounds that revel in their sensibility. It's essentially computer music with a soul. "Cable 54" opens the EP with a retrospective take on early Detroit techno. Interstellar Funk crafts squelchy, acid-inflected patterns on the 303 and mysterious synth melodies on a track that could blend in virtually unnoticed on one of Cybotron's first releases from the early eighties.

Following on from Adriani’s first incursion on Stroboscopic Artefacts in 2017, ‘Enter The Fire’, and a recent contribution to the label’s thematic VA, ‘Flowers From The Ashes: Contemporary Italian Electronic Music’, Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani returns to the label for his highly anticipated full-length debut for SA, ‘Morphic Dreams’.

Introducing the album is ‘Embryo’ is an immersive four-track micro-odyssey spanning across jagged ambient scopes, unmapped acidic grounds and further leftfield-friendly sonic territories, opening up the path for his forthcoming sophomore LP and first ever for Stroboscopic Artefacts, ‘Morphic Dreams’.

Throughout eleven cuts painstakingly executed but lacking not an iota of the fresh, spontaneous oomph that made his sound stand out of the crowd of techno producers to have emerged over the past decade, Adriani lays the foundations to a suspended sound imaginarium, governed by its own rules and principles of gravity.
 
Revolving around the notions of sublimation and quest for inner balance, 'Morphic Dreams' is comprised of four distinct sequences, conceived and designed as reflections of four mental states, each of them linked to the four alchemical elements - i.e. Water, Earth, Air and Fire - here represented by the A, B, C and D-sides. Fluid and enveloping, the A-side bathes the listener in some zero-G uterine vortex, pitching and rolling from the slo-burning exotic sensuality and tribal spell of 'The Tropical Year' to the trunk-bending, arpeggiated fast-track pulse of 'Storm Trees', through Raindance's feverish electro swing.
 
Entering a further abrasive, minerally rich phase, the B-side unleashes Adriani's dark side with optimum conviction. Deeply anchored in earthly materiality, this new evolution stage starts off to the frantic Italo bass of 'Dissolving Images', rushing headlong into a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of fractured reflections and nasty Giallo-like ambience. The delirious body stretch sequence then rather abruptly swerves onto a calmer flux with 'Dust/Mist', a much enticingly hip-swaying collaboration with Simon Crab, ex-member of the seminal '80s UK industrial-experimental band Bourbonese Qualk, before 'Casting The Runes' engulfs us into a tormented world of swollen eeriness and disquieting esoterism.
 
Back to a widescreen showcase of droney distortions, nasty acid swashes and other quirky drum programming, 'Hors De Combat' opens a new chapter, shortly followed by the playful bass intricacies and modular jeu-de-piste of 'Invisible Seekers', featuring Avian affiliate and longtime friend Shawn O'Sullivan. A further mind-expanding piece, C-side closer 'Crow' deploys its blackened wings wide and high as a chaos of martial percussions and liquefying synths slivers crash past the red-hot skyline. A fluttering melodic interlude, 'Things About To Disappear' blazes a clean trail for 'Make Words Split And Crack' to flourish, slowly but surely blooming into a nonstop grandiose twelve minute-shy finale geared up with the stirring cacophonic force of a Ligetian symphony and something of an epic-scale Kubrickian soundtrack.

The Jericho One project (also know round the office as Ground Zero) was called into existence to expand the bandwidth of Creme Organization with a different aestethic into a more ominous, techno, breakbeat, bass and dare we say "bigroom" oriented area without diluting the already overcrowded bunks of the Mothership any further. This is not an extension of R-Zone, there is no anonimity, even though there might be an overlap in sounds somewhere. This is no Throwback or Rave revivalism either. We aim to be firmly rooted in the now, with modern and up to date productions. But even then there is no escaping Electronic music's staggering heritage. We don't pretend to be original, instead we live in a world of combinations, re-interpretations ands re- imaginings. And at the risk of offending Extreme Noise Terror: We're only in it for the music. So if that's your thing, you are more than welcome to join us on another adventure.
