After a first EP from BNJMN, new Creme Organization label off shoot Jericho One now serves up a second release, this time from NOFACE. This is a moniker of Mella Dee, a producer who in the last few years has released rough house tracks on labels like Lobster Boy, Digital Soundboy and Omena. Here he offers three new pieces that show a passion for high energy, lo­fi tracks with inventive grooves.
‘Saturate’ is littered with old school signifiers but is essential a brutal, high power techno banger with immovable kick drums, slithering percussive patterns and fiery vocal ad libs that imbue the track with a sense of afro­futurism. ‘Polar’ is a similarly physical track with massive, monstrous kicks, reverberating synth lines and a barreling sense of groove that washes over you like a braking wave. Finally, ‘Warrior Charge’ is another physical and functional cut with robust drums, oversized hi hats and woodpecker like hook that demands you stomp and head bang from start to finish.

Call Super never takes the safe road. The London but now Berlin based DJ and musician has carved out his own place in the landscape of electronic music. He dares to challenge his audiences to the fullest with brittle percussive chaos, off-kilter bass lines and haunted, esoteric melodies. His strength most definitely lies in his variety, both playing and producing music that draws from early Perlon bliss and bone-crushing-missile-techno. After producing one of the standout LPs of 2014 (the critically acclaimed Suzi Ecto), cooking up a Dekmantel Podcast and performing at last year’s festival, Call Super now makes his Dekmantel Records debut.

Nervous Sex Traffic’s title gets you off on the wrong foot. A nine-minute long house odyssey, Call Super wraps your head around brain warming chord progressions and an organic sub-bass that keeps on giving. Subtle, progressive, mind-blowing. Mount Grace on the other hand, draws from a clanking, industrial sound palette. Endlessly deep, spacious and dub-heavy, this electro inspired excursion teases the bass synth in slowly, but starts to go wild as the music builds up.

No idea who these Three Kings are, this might be where all the repressed Catholicism comes into play, but Godspill has really outdone himself on the artwork here!

Liverpool artist Stu Robinson aka ASOK steps up to Creme Organization with a debut full length offering, A Mind Forever Voyaging, due out spring 2016. Featuring ten tracks of macho yet melodic, tender yet tense analogue house and techno, it is a continuation of the fine work the Scenery Records boss has done for labels like M>O>S and Mistress in the last few years. 

Something of a late starter, Robinson has fomented his own mystical, nostalgic, inventive analogue sound that makes you jack, as well as conjuring real emotions with his great knack for melody. This album was recorded live then edited down. “So if something doesn’t sound good it either stays in or I re-record the whole thing,” says Robinson, who used things like Maschine, tb303, analog RYTM, JX-8P, Microkorg, some plugins and “a shit load of old rave samples” to create his debut full length. All written at home over a period of a year or so, it proves the artist has plenty of ideas and more than enough skills to carry them off. 

Things kick off with the blissfully ambient and horizontal ‘Loom’ before getting straight into the action with ‘The Killing Gameshow’ which has already proved big on dance floors when road tested. Featuring spangled, naughty sounding synths and spacious kicks, it’s a writhing and unpredictable beast that slowly but surely casts you under its spell. ‘Side Scrolling’ shows ASOK to be an inventive drum programmer and lover of off-time hits and bass spits, then ’Three Sisters’ “is the only ever fully composed piece of music I have managed to create, written for my three girls,” says the artist. It is a beautifully suspensory ode with tender keys raining down the face of heavenly chords and pixel thin synths. ‘Guardian Dragon’ is a much more militant cut with raw hits and frazzled synths, old school stabs and dehumanised vocals all coalescing in a wide open space. 

The fine fusion of melodic beauty and drum based brutality continues through the experimental trip that is ‘Journey Through Fractal Mountain’ and the ghoulish, spitting ‘Visible Differences,’ while ‘1997’ is named after what was the finest year in drum & bass and features a synth line from Final Chapter boss Sean Dixon. Deep and atmospheric, dubby and filled with expert sound design and curious motifs, it makes way for more deep space ambiance in ‘Lost Patrol.’ Closer ’Utopia’ is one of the first tracks Robinson ever made, but you wouldn’t know it with its masterfully off-grid drums and synth smears, metal textures and absorbing sense of broken groove. 

This is a coherent body of truly inventive work that plays with the rules and regulations as we know it. All unified by a sense of emotion and kinked dance floor groove that has been picked up over the course of 25 years of living and breathing many different forms of dance music, it is an accomplished debut.

Creme Organization's Jericho One label continues to set a fine agenda with its fifth EP, this time from DJ Plant Texture aka Dona Basile, who also releases as Dona and Given. This is only his second EP under this alias, and is one that again marries breakbeats, techno and electro into electrifying new forms. 

Things kick off with 'Maybe Sometimes', three minutes of brutal old school rave. 'Maybe Sometimes (2_3 Psymono Mix)' is then a heavily filtered and stripped back version of the same tune that is brilliantly weird and otherworldly. 'Lello From SDA' then picks up the pace once more with reversed stabs, slamming drums and rubbery bass all cut up with yelping vocals and dusty breaks that take you right back to the early 90s. 

On the flip, 'Gargantuans' is on a deeper and more trippy old school flex with bright pads and gurgling bass taking you higher, then 'Cyclone (Tribute To The 90's)' is just that with its frenzied drums, filters and euphoric breakdowns all run through with Street Fighter samples. 'D_One' then ends the trip with a bit of ambient electronics, with odd sine waves and sharp sound designs placing you in an unhinged world.

The Jericho One project (also know round the office as Ground Zero) was called into existence to expand the bandwidth of Creme Organization with a different aestethic into a more ominous, techno, breakbeat, bass and dare we say "bigroom" oriented area without diluting the already overcrowded bunks of the Mothership any further. This is not an extension of R-Zone, there is no anonimity, even though there might be an overlap in sounds somewhere. This is no Throwback or Rave revivalism either. We aim to be firmly rooted in the now, with modern and up to date productions. But even then there is no escaping Electronic music's staggering heritage. We don't pretend to be original, instead we live in a world of combinations, re-interpretations ands re- imaginings. And at the risk of offending Extreme Noise Terror: We're only in it for the music. So if that's your thing, you are more than welcome to join us on another adventure.
