The 8th release on Desert Hearts Records comes from label boss Mikey Lion alongside fellow tech house enthusiast and Desert Hearts veteran, Bengal. The first track on the EP, titled "Big Cats Groove", is a tribal drum track laced with low slung lion and tiger samples. The vocal sample that instructs the crowd how to properly find the groove was appropriately recorded from Bengal's African Drum Teacher during his last semester at UC Berkeley. The second track on The Big Cats EP, titled "Like That", is a straight to the point tech house banger that hits as low to the floor as it gets. The equally tough vocal sample reminds the crowd to put trust in their DJ just as the bassline comes back in giving them what they want.  Finally, Bengal's remix of "Big Cats Groove" completes the EP as he takes a much more spacey and dubbed out approach to the track. Filled with melodic synths and vocal echoes, the EP ends with a much moodier and super tripped out vibe.

Highly Sedated return to Steve Angello’s respected Size Records with their latest single, ‘Got Some Water’.

Titled ‘Got Some Water’, the track intros with dark synths, a strong bassline underpinning spoken lyrics. A dramatic breakdown leads into echoing sung sections, before the track’s climactic chorus. The expert production compliments the memorable lyrics.

Consisting of two vocalists, a photographer, art director and a producer, Highly Sedated aim to push the boundaries of electronic music by fusing elements of a traditional band in their approach to performance and production. An ode to the five-member band’s realization of their ‘existence’ to follow their passion of music, Highly Sedated is a result of a group of brother-like friends with a wide difference of musical backgrounds coming together. “We didn’t want to join the circus, so we created our own,” says the group.

Regarding the project, Steve Angello says, "I'm lucky to be involved and I'm excited to be the chosen one, it's very hard to find a group of friends that's been through everything together to get here and their only purpose is to bring incredible music and art to the world. This is Highly Sedated.”

Swedish electronica band Highly Sedated have announced the release of their debut album, ‘All We Have Is Now’. To celebrate the announcement, they have revealed the first single from their LP titled, ‘Highly Sedated’. The track is out today and the album is due for release on 28th July via Steve Angello’s SIZE Records.

Built around a male vocal, ‘Highly Sedated’ begins with airy chords and a driving bassline. The track quickly escalates into a plethora of full-bodied synth patterns. ‘Highly Sedated’ is a solid display of the band’s production abilities, as well as giving listeners a first taste of the forthcoming album.

‘All We Have Is Now’ will be comprised of 12 tracks, which embody their eclectic taste and genre-bending style. The album will contain a slate of brand new material, alongside their previous singles, ‘Got Some Water’, ‘Make Love’ and ‘Last Call’.

‘Last Call’ has gone on to receive a wealth of support, since its release earlier this year. The track was also a firm fixture on Steve Angello’s R1 Residency on BBC Radio 1.

Amidst their busy schedule, Highly Sedated will be taking to the stage in Vilnius, Lithuania on 21st July, to celebrate Midsummer. The group will perform their tracks with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Modesto Pitrėno.

‘All We Have Is Now’ not only serves as a celebration of their finely-tuned production abilities, but also showcases the evolution of their sound so far. Set to add to the band’s success, Highly Sedated’s latest body of work feels like the perfect soundtrack to their exciting summer ahead.

Focussing on an increasingly deep house-centred style, German producer Martin Roth returns to Anjunadeep with appropriately titled "Beautiful Life" and the sultry "Make Love To Me Baby". 

Clearly containing some of the DNA from Martin's previous outing "Deep Style", "Beautiful Life" is laced with languid, downtuned grooves and layers moody interludes, softly echoing vocal fades and some gorgeous swathes of synth to conjure an edgy deep house number. 

Offering a more sunny contrast, the sultry and seductive sounds of "Make Love To Me Baby" blend chilled out grooves with a late-night soulful feel and some classic, understated piano house keys.

Breaking through the ranks of upcoming UK house producers is "The Game EP" from new artist Friend Within.  The man behind the new moniker is a mystery but the quality is impeccable. We tend to believe this is not the work of a new kid but rather an experienced producer who knows what he is doing. These 2 tracks were the cream of the demo pile and there's no way this guy just picked up a DAW last week.

‘The Game’ kicks off with a stuttering heavyweight house cut on the title track; a shuffling snare rolling instrumental that is built for peak time house parties. ‘The Hollow’ shows a penchant for 90s house echoed by some truly crisp and crunchy basslines that cement Friend Within as a monster producer and close friend of the dirtybird camp.

But who is Friend Within? It’s clear he has inimitable knowledge behind the decks, is well-versed in the classics and brings a fresh spin to experienced production. His roots may be impossible to determine but the eary support is universal. We are just happy to be first (as usual!) to release his music. With forthcoming releases on the likes of Hypercolour and Pets Recordings in 2013, plus huge love for forthcoming remix ‘Renegade Master’ that has everyone from Disclosure to Monki and B.Traits in a spin, expect to be seeing and hearing a lot more from Friend Within over the next years to come.
