This a great groove with surprisingly good results from the aging tape. Melodic with a gentle drive and wry lyrics. I would like some of that "improvement powder".

Yes, this is very good! If you recorded it in the late eighties, I suspect it was reel to reel because it does sound high quality!!!

A great fun track José and amazing considering the recording constraints.

A dystopian world should have dystopic holidays.

Spent a whole day in the sunshine
Exercising for my heart
Got some dry wood for a fire
In a stolen shopping cart

It blew away where hot winds blow

Reading Dante and some psalms

Dystopian Holiday

This is a home recording made on tape in the late eighties with my friend Camané and me in the vocals. "Pode melhorar" (it can get better) sounds just like "pó de melhorar" (improvement powder, a much requested magic stuff). There's a little distortion in the start. Accidents did happen in those primitive recording sessions.

Primeiro levei um estalo, depois levei um murro.
Mas a nossa paixão não vai acabar, não.

De um conto de fadas eu trouxe a magia.
Com o jeito das crianças constrói-se a alegria.
Com caixas de pó de perlim-pim-pim,
que agarram nas tristezas e fazem-nas chegar ao fim.

This was recorded sometime ago: It depicts the missile hit, the long fall from the sky, the crash, the souls rising to heaven. Violin improvisation by Matilde Pinho. During the high international tension that followed the tragedy, an officer in charge - Stanislav Petrov - refused to pass up the alarm of a balistic missile attack, apparently coming from the USA, generated by an early alert system that was supposed infallible. That refusal broke protocols and doomed his military career. But he probably saved us all from nuclear disaster.

Estivemos bem perto do fim, quando o Sol brilhou sobre as nuvens, e os braços dos que caíram do céu ainda se erguiam desde o fundo do mar, clamando por vingança. Mas tu, na hora mais extrema, não cedeste à lógica do medo, ao conformismo da nomenclatura. Não alertaste o líder supremo. Eram tempos de paranóia, e acabaste os teus dias despromovido, porque viste mais alto. "Não sou herói. Só fiz o meu trabalho" - dizias. Mas, agora que partiste, te lembramos e dizemos: "Avé, Stanislav. Os que por causa de ti não morreram te saúdam."

I've been making music with Pedro Castro since 1972. At the time, we created the alternative rock band Petrus Castrus. The music I'm placing here are just the home recordings of ongoing projects and ideas. I created a few playlists (Inéditos) according to language (PO - Portuguese; EN - English; SP - Spanish; FR - French; IT - Italian), and also for concept albums (Três Jardins). There are two long tracks (Mediterrâneo and Isaías) for full concept albums. A playlist called Synergies gathers the collaboration projects with other musicians in the fantastic SoundCloud community.
