dj Smiley Mike was the name given to me by the late 90s underground trance scene in and around Vancouver. By the time I started to DJ in '94, I had already been frequenting Vancouver's underground warehouse parties for a few years. Just as it was back then, I have a fierce passion for electronic music and especially trance.

In the mid-to-late 90s I became involved with a group loosely known as The Spirit Circle, DJing at various underground parties and outdoor gatherings, many of which were set up in the forests around Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. My musical taste covered a broad range of trance, but my favourite style is still that middle ground where driving hard, acid-lined trance meets with epic breakdowns and builds. 

After first DJing for CiTR in 1994, I returned in 2001 to launch Trancendance, my own weekly radio show dedicated entirely to trance. The show is unique in that it still broadcasts live over FM airwaves, in addition to Internet stream and podcast. Now in its 17th year, listenership has spread internationally with a community of over 49,000 fans and large followings in Mexico, India, Europe and South America. 

Today, I play mainly progressive and full on psytrance. My music library has gone digital, but I still play on Technics 1200s with vinyl control records. I attack every mix as though it were a live mashup, constantly creating new sounds with the help of live effects and samples.

I am originally from Ontario (Toronto) and recently moved out to BC - Before I moved (and had a baby) I used to be more involved in DJ'ing , but not so much these days. "Gleich und Gleich gesellt sich gern" oder "Zu jedem Topf der passende Deckel"; diese beiden Redewendungen bezeichnet die Verbindung der beiden Techno-Dj´s Janosch Diern und André Drewitz ziemlich genau und exakt.
Zusammen und doch unabhängig voneinander haben sie vor mehr als 10 Jahren damit begonnen, sich ihre "Version" von Techno zu erarbeiten. Es ließ nicht lange auf sich warten und die beiden bekamen, zuerst noch getrennt voneinander, ihre ersten Booking- Anfragen. Schon nach ihren ersten Auftritten wussten sie die Feiernden zu begeistern und wurden frenetisch umjumbelt. 
Ihre größten Erfolge feierten beide jedoch gemeinsam als Resident Dj´s der angesagten Bremer Partyreihe "Electronic Expierience" und auf dem Float der "Moving Elements" ,der auf mehreren Paraden vertreten war. Hier spielten sie neben nationalen und auch internationalen Top -Acts der Szene wie z. B. Chris Liebing, Marco Remus, Funk D´Void, Mijk van Dijk, Felix Kröcher oder aber auch Gary D. und Melanie di Tria.
Hier schufen sie sich eine Fangemeinde, die ihnen bis heute treu geblieben ist.
Nachdem sich beide nach längerer Pause technisch und auch etwas musikalisch neu ausgerichtet hatten, wollen sie es nun gemeinsam nochmal wissen.
Ihr Sound ist kommpromisslos, energetisch, treibend und besticht durch seinen Groove. Sie verstehen es
gekonnt moderne und klassische Sounds miteinander zu verschmelzen, ohne dabei das Gespür für den Floor zu verlieren.
Wer diese beiden jemeils erlebt hat, wird sie nie vergessen. Sie stehen zu ihrer Auffassung von Techno und es macht Spass ihnen zuzuhören.

Since forming in Feb 2011 the philosophy of Brown Acid is to continually provide the ultimate dancefloor experience.  

A full dancefloor formed under the night sky is a singular conscious organism filled with the souls of like minded beings. The nature of its energy is derived from music which harmonises and unifies all the essential ingredients which enable it to function at it's peak.    
 
Its our resposibilty to provide listener's of our sets with a collective and positive musical experience. What we do is entirely about you so we openly invite you share part of your musical journey with us.   

We have played at premier outdoor festivals such as Rainbow, Strawberry Fields, Tribadelic, Earthcore, Yellow Sunshine, Colour Of Sound (residents) & Lost The Plot.  We have supported most of the biggest names in psy today and we're represented by 2 labels which are Highly Evolved Music and Universal Dance Records
