Sacred Foe // Shallow Friend OUT NOW

I chose to try to emulate the classic Motown sound. I was going for a high energy, solid and fun Motown magic sound. I wrote this song as more of a country style song about 10 years ago, but never recorded it. I think it was meant to be a Motown song so I'm glad this is the first rendition.
The drums are actually a combination of Midi and audio sampled drums from Apple Loops carefully blended and arranged to achieve the sound I was looking for. The verse is a standard 4 snare Motown beat.  It is the same beat that from the style traits, but without the tambourines. I used some EQ's and Reverbs on each to get what I wanted to hear. There is a fill before the chorus and the beat changes to more of a shuffle.
The Bass is recorded live direct into the board. I used a 1983 Fender Precision Elite II with round wound strings (I didn't have time to put the flatwounds on). I have the mids and lows up and the highs down.  The bass line does a lot of walking and lands on the root on the downbeats.
The Vocals are performed by me myself and I. I decided to make the most of what I had and set up a ridiculously elaborate vocals microphone emporium. I recorded it in my daughtetr's bedroom with blankets on the walls. I had an MXL genesis in the shower with the bathroom and shower door open. I had an AT 822 hanging over my head. I had two AT 2020's on either side of me. I had two SM 57s directly in front one clean and one ran through a Voice Live II. Lastly l had an MXL Ribbon mic in front. I did the takes till I got it like I wanted then I did the same for the backup/harmony vocals.
The keys are recorded from a Roland RD 300GX.  I bassically did comps playing chords on the 8ths as part of a the rhythm. I put it on a church organ setting and played along live.
I did minimal mixing and no editing all the tracks are start to finish. This was a fun project. I had to be careful cause I wanted to keep going.
