This project, “Fables” consists of contemporary jazz compositions. Each song is based off a fable from around the world. Old Dragonbeard comes from the Chinese Fairy Book (published 1921), which is a collections of Chinese fairy tales.  This features Manuel Trabucco on Tenor Sax and bass solo by Doğa Ay.

THIS KIND OF LOVE

FIRST ECLIPSE ON MARS

Year 2015.

I'd only been composing music with my iPad 1 for four years.

I was lucky enough to find an app that allowed me to "make music" easily: Music Studio 2. It's the only DAW I've ever used, aside from trying out a few tracks with Garage Band.

I made an effort to learn, and so every night I searched the software's forum, where other users were asking questions, suggesting improvements, and posting their compositions (some of which were downloadable). Little by little, I got to know some of them and established some trust (I still write to them from time to time...). Yes, I was a forty-something among people twice my age (and much older... in some cases).

The most active was my friend Ronald, who suggested composing music related to the seven deadly sins. I chose envy.

A couple of years later, I completely reworked the melody and added new sounds with synthesizers I obtained from new apps I added to my collection. Although there was some underlying music that connected the two melodies, it couldn't be said to be the same. So I decided to give it another name, and called it First Eclipse on Mars.

Midnight Over 52nd Street is a jazz-blues album that lives in the quiet hours—when the city exhales and the music starts speaking in half-sentences. The record draws from the late-night spirit of Miles Davis’s cooler, more reflective moments, blending muted trumpet lines, smoky blues phrasing, and loose, conversational rhythms.

Each track feels like a slow walk down a dimly lit block, where every note has space to breathe. The trumpet doesn’t rush—it lingers, bends, and occasionally pulls back into silence. Piano chords fall like streetlight reflections on wet pavement, the bass moves with purpose but never urgency, and the drums whisper more than they shout.

There’s an intimacy to this album. Solos unfold naturally, never crowded, letting mood lead instead of technique. Blues influences surface in subtle turns of phrase, while modal passages keep the music open and unresolved—just like the night itself. Nothing here is flashy. Everything is intentional.

Midnight Over 52nd Street isn’t background music, but it doesn’t demand attention either. It rewards listeners who lean in. This is a record for late drives, empty rooms, and quiet conversations—where the city fades and the horn tells the story.
