@midland: “With this mix I wanted to try and capture the sound of me in the club during a long set in the part of the night when you and the crowd are locked in to a groove; a time when you’re able to make left turns, but it feels totally natural. As ever unreleased records sit alongside new records alongside records that came out 10/20/30 years ago. I definitely wanted to build to a more electro/rave crescendo in the middle of this, and try and plot a course through some broken stuff towards the end. I really enjoyed recording this one!”

Pandhora, a French duo, represents a symbiosis of syncopated rhythms and psychedelic melodies. Inspired by 70’s progressive and psychedelic music, they mix deep electronica music with synths and throbbing guitar riffs. Thanks to their experimentiveness and their incredible creativity, Pandhora enable the audience a unique electronic dance music experience. 

The project is the artistic symbiosis of two musicians who wish to bring sounds that occupied their thoughts back alive. Referring to their style as “Deep Psychedelica”, they always seek for new sonorities and therefore often invite other musicians to join them. Their mission is to create an original universe for each of their productions and performances. 

And we are enormously happy they took their credo to another level in their exclusive Psychedelic Vodkarita for Schirmchendrink: it features live guitar & synths. And, for the first time, it also includes live vocals in the intro of this sensational mix.

Jordan has been DJing for a long time. More than half his lifetime, in fact. While most of us were studying for our high school exams, Jordan was zipping across Ireland with a roped-in mate, playing all manner of rowdy clubs, often lacking the ID requirements that would typically get him bounced from the door. What’s more, he wasn’t a national sensation with a hit single, he just fucking loved it. Eventually, Jordan walked a Radio 1 competition that saw him play in front of a home crowd of 10000 people in his home city of Belfast. He was sixteen years old.

While this may sound like the beginning of a particularly salacious Netflix documentary, we don’t need to ask “But where’s Jordan now?”, because he’s here, delivering the latest edition in the #PHANTASYMIX series. Between now and then, he’s maintained face as one of the most skilled DJs in Belfast, a city that thanks to it’s dedicated crowd and AVA Festival, has developed a burgeoning reputation as a hotbed of electronic music. Jordan helped build that foundation, co-running The Night Institute party for many years, hosting international names and then wisely scaling things back to a wide-ranging rave based on the skills of himself and fellow DJ Timmy Stewart.

More recently, Jordan has been dancing down multiple avenues. As well as traversing Europe as a DJ, his Nocturne edits series have become some of the most sought-after slabs of wax in the market, beloved by Gerd Janson, Kornel Kovacs and our own Erol Alkan. His halcyon solo productions on Belters and Loose Fit have a luminescent, timeless quality that recalls Orbital or The Chemical Brothers alongside his constantly refreshed record collection from a bubbling underground. And now he’s here for the #PHANTASYMIX. Alongside the music, he spoke to John Thorp about those wild early days, the perfect edit, the Belfast music scene and the potential effects of the recent pandemic.

Jimpster: The UK House craftsman shaping soundscapes with soul and subtlety

If you’ve ever lost yourself in the smooth, rolling rhythms of deep house, you’ve probably had Jimpster to thank without even knowing it.  Behind the decks, in the studio, or even just in the groove of his own life, Jimpster—aka Jamie Odell—is one of the quiet yet crucial architects of the genre, a producer who’s somehow managed to keep his sound fresh while paying homage to house music’s roots.  With releases stretching back to the early 90's, Jimpster’s sonic journey has evolved from the cut n paste, sample-heavy bedroom productions of his early releases to the deep house anthems he’s known for today.  He’s the artist who’s mastered the art of organic warmth, blending digital precision with analog textures in ways that sound both timeless and ahead of their time.  His music often draws from a deep well of influences: jazz, funk, soul, electro and even ambient textures—but it’s always tethered to the dancefloor.  He’s the kind of producer who can make a sub-bass rumble feel like a heartbeat while surrounding it with lush, atmospheric synths and intricate percussion that push his tracks into a hypnotic, almost meditative space.

Jimpster's discography is packed with both original tracks and remixes that make you move without even realising it: there’s the spaced-out, trippy disco allure of “English Rose”, the groove-heavy slo-mo swagger of “The Sun Comes Up” (which is basically the soundtrack to *that* sunset), and let’s not forget the timeless “Dangly Panther.”  Each track feels like a wave—a smooth ride that pulls you along effortlessly but leaves you wanting more.
