04 The Ballad Of Edgar Valdez

Jinyoung Park is a singer songwriter in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also the lead singer of the band U4RIA, based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She was born and raised in South Korea until she was 12 years of age. Her first introduction to formal music training was at the age of one, when she started classical violin lessons. Next, she started piano lessons in the first grade.

In 2001, her family moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where she learned English and met people from all over the world. She also met James Housego, her music teacher who encouraged her to perform at every chance she had. Housego taught her entire 9th grade class how to play guitar and drums, and of this came a band named Novice. As Novice evolved, Jinyoung played lead guitar, keys, and even drums.

After finishing high school, she moved to Portland, Oregon to attend Reed College. She studied linguistics, but participated in as many musical activities as possible in her free time. She was a rare freshman to join the prestigious Collegium Musicum and also sang in the larger Chorus. She was discovered by a senior music major who recruited her to be a singer for the funk band, Funkubus.

She moved to New Orleans, LA in August of 2011 to work at Tulane University. She spent about a year performing with a local band Gravy Flavored Kisses, not only in New Orleans but also in Gulf Shores and Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL. She has been a guest performer for Big Sam's Funky Nation at Tipitina's, for Brass-a-Holics at 12 bar on Fulton, and for Zena Moses and Rue Fiya at Vaso on Frenchmen.
