My first foray into Disquietude.

Made using a Digitakt and Microfreak. 

With the exception of the pad sound, everything is arranged on the Digitakt using samples of ice in a cup (or a blender). I loved the bell-like quality of the glass when pitched way down, and built the track around that.

Please record the sound of an ice cube rattling in a glass, and make something of it.

Just ice - disquiet0523

Ice in room temperature water creaks and spurts, also bumps resonantly around in a glass bowl. Recorded in stereo with 2 JRF contact mics duct taped to a medium glass bowl. Subsequently stretched and pitched to create this soundscape.

Frozen Activity - disquiet0523

Ice cube in a wine glass sampled for Disquiet Junto 0523. Played around with the sample on the Circuit Rhythm, then into Ableton for layering those recordings and arranging. Duplicated a couple of the tracks and added some spectral resonance, very low in mix. Played some drums because the cube samples had some sweet rhythms and I couldn't get Beastie Boys "Ill Communication" out of my head.

Got That Chill Communication [disquiet0523]

Saitō Sanki (1900 – 1962) was a dentist who discovered his passion for haiku poetry in his mid-thirties, when his colleagues at the hospital in Soto Kanda convinced him to write a haiku for a collection. Later, he became one of the most important exponents of wartime haiku: he was imprisoned in 1940 during the government’s World War II persecution of controversial artists, and was officially forbidden to write until the end of the war.

This haiku is included in The Kobe Hotel, a collection that depicts the author’s wartime experiences in Kobe, the struggles of ordinary people to endure war, defeat and occupation.
