This is a site specific performance of my Found Objects and Atmospheres (acoustic translation version) on July 15th at King's College Strand Campus, Somerset House, East Wing, Inigo Rooms,  the space of the Performative and Experiential Translation exhibition. As sound material for my performance I solely used field recordings I made at the campus and its surroundings and some sounds I produced live during the performance. I transformed or "translated" the field recordings into electronic sounds using a framework I set up with tools developed by GRM.

Puddle in the Pegwell Bay mudflats, teeming with life

I had a week old copy of New Scientsist lying around – unopened - so I decided i'd use an article from the news section for this weeks Junto; since this article is shorter than requested, only tangentially “local” to me, and cover dated for last Saturday I am prepared to accept any censure that the Junto believes to be just.

This is a soundtrack to the article Earthworms roped into making quantum dots [intriguingly re-titled  Worms enlisted to make quantum dots in the print magazine] from issue2898 of New Scientist, available at http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21728984.300-earthworms-roped-into-making-quantum-dots.html

The sounds heard are taken from a couple of sources: a recording of me opening the oxo-degradable bag which the magazine arrives in; a recording of me finding the page in the magazine & then reading it;& a recording of me placing some peelings &c in the compost bin in my back yard (prompted by all this thinking about worms); & a 487hz sine wave. These were all chopped up, slowed down & generally tinkered with in Audiomulch before being combined & layered in Audacity & Fruityloops. Perhaps it should be played at low volume.

Apart from the caveats mentioned above I believe this sound fulfils the criteria for this week's Junto.
