My first introduction to Sound Reporters was the mysterious and beautiful Amazonia 6891, a lush sound collage of field recordings and experimental electronic sounds, echoes, and waves, which we featured on an earlier mixtape (RIAFC025). Much later, quite by accident, I came across a spectacular field recording of frogs calling for rain in Mae Hong Son, Thailand (also featured in an earlier mixtape – RIAFC090). The field recording was made by Fred Gales, co-founder of Sound Reporters. We began corresponding and, thanks to good fortune (mine and yours), he agreed to put together a compilation of Sound Reporters recordings for Radio is a Foreign Country.

As you will hear in this curated mix, Fred is not only a prolific field recordists and musician, he is also an avid collector and student of the world’s music. (He does an amazing show called Klankbron on Concertzender Radio – Amsterdam, the Netherlands). It begins with Sail 85, a stunning 14-minute orgy of foghorns (recorded in the harbors of Amsterdam) combined with a thick atmosphere conjured up by synthesizers and other electronic sounds. This is followed by a series of raw field recordings from West Papua, Suriname, East & Central Africa, and southeast Asia. Enjoy!

This is our second jam, about a month after our first. While still raw and minimal, this session was more ambient than the first and included a few longer tracks that seamlessly blended into each other, in addition to some new sonic direction. 

Recorded live in a terrible duplex bedroom by Jonathan Carey (guitar) and Evan Witkowski (drums, keys) with a single cheap room microphone. Bass added later by Evan.

Fresh off the success of his recent release on Radiant Records titled "Hyperdelic," Kasra is submerging listeners with a signature sound touching on dance music visions from different epochs but harnessing a unique aural palette.

Kasra applies cut up techniques with sampling and utilizing his own voice as a tool throughout the record, topping the club energy with a punk rock sensibility.

Equal parts eccentric and equal parts calculated, the tempest of this record is doused in wild elements: anthemic vocal samples with arena shaking capabilities, 80's hedonistic nostalgia, catchy utopian vibrations with a psychedelic cyber flair, flirting with inspiration from groups like Meat Beat Manifesto and YMO. Euphoric and aerated, but with a slicing undertone utilizing his freaky sampling prowess.

Shaytoon is proud to present the next chapter of diaspora alchemy for your listening pleasure.

Prepare for a flood.

Galileo's telescopic observation of the moons of Jupiter orbiting the planet  was a black swan moment for the Church's earth centred view of the universe. As ever those whose long held beliefs were challenged by the facts did not react well. Plus ca change.

Well she's gone , and to keep her memory alive he paints a picture of her , just so he can see her every day and remember what they had together , don't be sad , it's only a song ! Me and Andrea are back on the 15th , then another remix of an old one on the 22nd . Then on the 1st of June is a belter with Tony Harris . In the pipeline and in the creating process are songs by me and Charlotte , rapper Blaffy and myself , and a new one with Gaz Brownie , early stage with that song ! Crespi Drum Syndicate is a collaboration between long-time friends and musical cohorts, Pablo Arrangoiz (El Gusano/Goiz) and Jonathan Trujillo (Jonny From Space). "Beats" developed from a desire to make music centered around rhythm and percussion, atonal sounds, inharmonic hooks, and a mutual agreement to refrain from melody and harmony as much as possible. The record is the result of their first sessions with this concept in mind. Inspired by the proto-techno of '60s and '70s Italian library music, motorik kraut grooves, Latin dance music, orchestral percussion pieces, dancehall riddims, and dub engineering.

Written, recorded, and mixed in Coral Gables, Florida, August to September 2022. 

Out September 6th, 2024. Edition of 100 CD-R's.

"Jörg S. born in Cologne, from youth on, is fascinated by all kinds of art, so he taught himself the saxophone very early. Nowadays flutes of all kind are also part of the equipment, as are jaw harps, percussion, bass, guitars and keyboards.
He was and is always involved in many band projects and session events.
In the 80s he was a saxophonist in the Adam Noidlt Intermission Orchestra with gigs in Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Basel. Very early on he also worked as a writer with live readings in the Cologne area and was a painter with large formats for many years, all in addition to his job as a graphic designer. Now, retired, he is devoted solely to music: home recording with the platform of choice, Soundcloud and global collaborations."
