No one saw this one coming, two of the most respected figures in the scene getting together in the recording studio. Gasps of wow have been agasp upon every play of this track on dance floors around the word. The punch of the breakdown lives up to its track title and certainly leaves a long lasting impact. Amazing work.

The latest release from Solid Stone’s Phenomena imprint welcomes Second Sine to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Russia, Andrej Sinitsyn aka Second Sine is one of his country’s fastest rising electronic music talents. Since making his debut in 2008 the Moscow resident has showcased his music on John OO Fleming’s JOOF Recordings and JOOF Mantra, while also landing on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Records. Now making his much anticipated Phenomena debut, Second Sine presents his ‘The Dream / Windwire’ double a-side showcase.

Second Sine has always treaded the waters between progressive house and techno with an effortless ease. This EP sits comfortably in the latter, beginning with the lead piece ‘The Dream’. The Russian artist’s neatly tailored production is on display here once again with crisp, detailed design and electric moods that are sure to spark even the most discerning dance floors. On a backbone of tough beats comes rugged rhythms and an array of psychedelic motifs. Mechanical yet fluid, the narrative evolves during the main break, as vocal fragments and ghostly atmospheres converge, perfectly setting up a timely drop and percussive finale.

The companion piece ‘Windwire’ follows a similar sonic ethos and sits as an ideal complement. It’s punchy beats, pulsating groove and crunchy rhythms create an energetic core early on. Astral qualities come in the form of sonic artefacts and acidic hooks, intertwining to profound effect, as sweeping atmospheres and percussive flurries continue to build mood and tension across the first act. The centrepiece only furthers its dramatic appeal, as waves of white noise slowly engulf the groove, before melting down for a stomping re-entry and punishing final act. It rounds out two powerful creations from Second Sine, who has certainly made his Phenomena debut a memorable one.
