The Evening Funeral is a studio project established in 2005 by Jose Sanchez in Chicago, Illinois.  All music is written and recorded by Jose Sanchez unless otherwise posted in the descriptions.  All music is instrumental because Jose lacks the skills needed to become a successful vocalist :)

The lead single off Starina Catchatoorian’s latest EP, I Won’t Forget You, was written on a dare. “My boyfriend at the time asked me to write him a song,” Starina said. “I knew we were doomed. So, I hung up the phone and wrote him a break-up song.”

Months later, after performing the song live at various clubs around Brooklyn and New York, Starina would come to understand the song’s true meaning. "IWFY is a goodbye song that’s also about hope for the future, a promise that love will always overcome despair if we are open to receiving it.” It was this sentiment that propelled Starina to pursue recording again after she took an almost ten-year hiatus from the studio while pursuing her creative writing endeavors. “I may have taken a break from recording, but I never stopped writing or playing live,” she said. “I have a stockpile of finished songs ready to set free.” 

After relocating upstate, she and her longtime collaborator, guitarist Jef Brown (Jackie-O Motherfucker), began recording what would be her latest offering of songs that are “catchy, with hook-filled yet dark melodies and vocals…thoughtful ballads and rock tunes inspired in part by the music of Aimee Mann,” as NPR's, All Songs Considered once described her work. For IWFY, she enlisted longtime bandmate Eduardo Palacios on cello, along with Turner Stough (Shilpa Ray, I Am the Polish Army) on bass, and Randy Schrager (Scissor Sisters, Jesse Malin) on drums.

Makes music for godless monkey men and women.
