I'm a composer and music teacher. I moved to New Mexico in 1971 for the "space, light and timelessness" and wrote music, raised a family, directed the Albuquerque Boy Choir and taught piano, voice and composition. Semi-retired, I still teach in Albuquerque and at my composing and teaching retreat in Northern New Mexico.

My catalog contains over 90 works, for students and professionals, from chamber music, orchestral and choral music, to pieces for harp, organ, guitar and piano. The music is tonal and accessible, yet distinctive and memorable. It often portrays the power and magic of the rugged beauty and ancient cultures of my adopted state of New Mexico.

I was recognized in 1980 as the USA Composer of the Year by the Music Teachers National Association for "Voices from Chaco: Concertino for Piano and Woodwind Quintet." In 1985, "Fajada Butte" was performed in the Kennedy Center by the National Repertory Orchestra for the 20th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts.

(®Emmy Award-Winning Composer) has performed on five continents, before every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan and with several ®Oscar and ®Grammy-Award Winning artists, including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Jamie Foxx to name a few. With commissions from the likes of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music w/Maestra Marin Alsop to the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, The Washington Post describes his concert-hall work as having ‘iridescent colors in the world premiere of a beautifully crafted suite’ while Marvin Hamlisch congratulates the occasion by commenting ‘… with a name like Wineglass, it had to be good.’
 
John received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition with a minor in Viola Performance at The American University and later received his master’s degree in Music Composition: Film Scoring for Motion Pictures, Television and Multi-Media at New York University, studying with Justin Dello-Joio of the Juilliard School. 
 
As a recipient of three (two consecutive) ®Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series, and three ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, Mr. Wineglass holds seven ®EMMY nominations.
 
In 2014, John arranged all of the string arrangements and performed w/the electric-acoustic violin on the ©GRAMMY-nominated gospel album and DVD Withholding Nothing (LIVE) by William McDowell.  He also finished string arrangements on MOTOWN’s latest Christmas album in 25 years which won a 2015 ©DOVE Award featuring award-wining artists like Indie Arie, Neyo, Babyface, Toni Braxton, The Temptations, Smokie Robinson and Gregory Porter.

"Wisdom In Rhyme™ was birthed on January 1, 2005 in my Harlem, New York apartment. It was New Year's Eve 2004 and I cried myself to sleep, desperately seeking God for the purpose of my life. His answer came the next morning through a simple and unexpected response within my heart, “I am a writer. Write wisdom.” That day was the beginning of my journey as a Poet and a Writer. A journey of hearing God’s voice and experiencing his heart. Recently someone asked me, “Jessica, where do you get all these words?” And the only appropriate response I have is ... “The Holy Spirit.” Truly, He is the writer. I am thankful to be the vessel He chose to deliver the message."

In 2012 Jessica Lee Schenk released her debut album "Revelation of Love". Recorded and produced in Kampala, Uganda by Swangz Ave Ltd, this album includes live instrumental music with some of Uganda's greatest musicians and artists.

Introduction Bio:
Kanyon Sayers-Roods is Costanoan Ohlone-Mutsun and Chumash; she also goes by her given Native name, “Coyote Woman”. She is proud of her heritage and her native name (though it comes with its own back story), and is very active in the Native Community. She is an Artist, Poet, Published Author, Activist, Student and Teacher. The daughter of Ann-Marie Sayers, she was raised in Indian Canyon, trust land of her family, which currently is one of the few spaces in Central California available for the Indigenous community for ceremony. Kanyon’s art has been featured at the De Young Museum, The Somarts Gallery, Gathering Tribes, Snag Magazine, and numerous Powwows and Indigenous Gatherings. She is a recent graduate of the Art Institute of California, Sunnyvale, obtaining her Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees in Web Design and Interactive Media. She is motivated to learn, teach, start conversations around decolonization and reinidgenization, permaculture and to continue doing what she loves, Art.

Artist Statement:     Costanoan Ohlone Mutsun and Chumash Native American Kanyon Sayers-Roods’ (Hahashkani-Coyote Woman) art is a sincere expression of her Native heritage. Kanyon’s visual descriptions are always based on nature and the natural world. Dedicated and active in the Native Community, Kanyon provides leadership, serving as an artist, poet, activist, student and teacher for up and coming scholars ready to challenge their creative paths and remind people what it means to decolonized. Kanyon’s lifelong artistic vision is to convey principal ideas of Native culture through visual means. Offering her voice and her art to remind our community that Indigenous perspectives and cultural continuity is ever present and prevalent.
