678 - Past Midnight - Part Two

I present to you my version of the seminal 1930's classic, "Georgia on My Mind" .
Written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell (lyrics) and first recorded that year. It has often been associated with Ray Charles, a native of the U.S. state of Georgia who recorded it for his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road.

I present for you a very loose adaptation of the wonderful "Gone With The Wind" . Written in 1937 by Allie Rubel and possibly related to the Margret Mitchell novel. It has been covered many times by many great artists, including the great Bill Evans. The most successful version was by the wonderful Jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery on 1960.

Old Man River (feat Pollenfax)

Don Grolnick was a two-fisted session pianist who also played with Michael Brecker in Steps Ahead and other groups.  His remarkable composition, Pools,  originally had an extended "verse" (or intro)which was fully half the song and is rarely heard now, but Axel Weiss recalls the flavor of it with his bossa ending.

I present for you "Autumn in New York" . Probably one of the most covered jazz standards ever and still such a beautiful piece.
It was composed by Vernon Duke in 1934 for the Broadway musical “Thumbs Up!”, which opened on December 27, 1934, performed by J. Harold Murray.

by Charles Gounod into what is commonly called "Ave Maria". Now adapted by me .
