Human-induced existential risks are symptoms of two underlying generator functions.

One of these functions is rivalrous (win-lose) games. This includes any activity where one party competes to win at the expense of another party. The win-lose games are at the root of almost all harm that humans have caused, both to each other and to the biosphere. As technology is increasing our capacity to cause harm, these competitive games start to exceed the capacity of the playing field. Scaled to a global level and multiplied by exponential technology, these win-lose games become an omni lose-lose generator. When the stakes are high enough, winning the game means destroying the entire playing field and all the players. 

What have capitalism, science and technology have created? Among by-products of these rivalrous games are what are referred to as “multipolar traps”.  Multipolar traps are scenarios where the things that work well for individuals locally are directly against the global well-being. Our sense-making and choice making processes need to be upgraded and improved if we want to solve these traps as a category.

Are the current phases of capitalism, science, technology and democracy destabilizing and coming to an end? if so, in order to avoid extinction, we have to come up with different systems altogether, and replace rivalry with anti-rivalry. One of the ways to do that is moving from ownership of goods towards access to shared common resources. We must be at the place where the harmful win-lose dynamics both have to and can change.

Mad Dog of DC - First I’d like to thank you for accepting my invitation to do a 30 for 30 House Music Mix collaboration with me! I really enjoyed what we achieved and look forward to future collaborations with you! What did you enjoy about the project?
Sinjin - I enjoyed the range of music that was presented between the two DJ’s. In addition, working with a fellow veteran in any endeavor is always a privilege. Many people think that people that served in the military are monoliths. That we are all square jawed recruiting poster with no independent thought. The US Military, let alone The Marine Corps I served in, is one of the most diverse environments in terms of not only people, but range of thought and artistic expression. To find a fellow veteran DJ was just a joy to discover.

Mad Dog of DC – I agree! What other collaborations have you participated in?
Sinjin - I had a release on Soiree Records in 2021 for The Deep Intelligence Series. But it was not really a collaboration like we presented in the 30 for 30 set. It was more of a lone wolf operation. It is usually like that for me. I guess I don’t play well with others or something. I try to … but well … ya know.

Mad Dog of DC - Who would you say are some of your major inspirations in the field of deejaying? 
Sinjin - DJs like Soiree Records founder Derrick “Drivetrain” Thompson located in Detroit Michigan are a must list for me. I remember when I first started buying records and I didn’t have any. He literally gave me a copy of every release his label had from 1991 to 1997 (which was present day at the time). No one had ever or has ever been that kind to me in this music world. Any other must list for me is Todd Perrin of Toledo Ohio. Todd, a fellow SRI label mate, took me under his wing in 1997. He too provided not only with vinyl but with lessons of how things worked. He even lined me up for my first series of residencies in Toledo, OH. I owe both of them a lot. There are others to name and mention as well but it’s a long list. I can leave it there for now. I hope to do any other 30 for 30 and thus another interview. So, save this question.

Mad Dog of DC - How long have you been deejaying? 
Sinjin - Since 1997. So, 25 in total now!

Mad Dog of DC - What do you like most about deejaying? 
Sinjin - I always wanted to be a conductor of a symphony. This is as close as I will ever get. So being able to control the music directly is what I enjoy the most!

Mad Dog of DC - What is it that you like most about House Music? 
Sinjin - The beat! Its like a heartbeat! Limitless. It goes not stop!

Sinjin - Stay tuned. Spring 2023 is going to be big! I have a Twitch TV channel I am working on. SoundCloud and RepostExchange are firmly in place now. So, I guess the thing I am working on… is bringing everyone more Sinjin von Richthofen! Through more and more channels. My focus will always remain on world events like Ukraine and National Politics. We live in dangerous times. Slava Ukraine, and long live Democracy.
