Formed back in the heady days of 1987 at the start of the ‘acieed’ explosion, Acid Jazz was the first of the groundbreaking new indie labels and paved the way for the likes of Mo Wax, Wall Of Sound and Talkin' Loud…

Initially a simple bedroom operation established by Eddie Piller and Gilles Peterson, within three months of the first 45 release (Galliano’s Frederic Lies Still), the label had grown rapidly, acquired premises in London’s east end and laid out a unique manifesto of alternative club sounds – jazz, street-soul, funk, latin, reggae and jazz poetry all put in an early appearance. Galliano, Chris Bangs, The Night Trains, The Last Poets, A Man Called Adam and Snowboy & The Latin Section were amongst the first wave of label signings and they all appeared live at groundbreaking jazz themed nights at London clubs like the WAG in Soho and Camden’s legendary Dingwalls.





By ’89, Peterson had left the label to establish his own Talking Loud imprint and Piller soon moved the operation to Denmark Street, London’s original Tin Pan Alley, into the former EMI music office. The next wave of signings included D Influence, Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies. Chart success quickly followed as the label spread its numerous tentacles around the world. The sound of the label became the name of choice for the scene that had established in its wake and by the early ’90s, Acid Jazz was booming out of a succession of speakers from Sweden to Singapore, Hamburg to Hobart, Shibuya to Sheffield and everywhere in between. International tours followed as the label expanded through the 90′s, gradually increasing their musical influences to include daisy-age hip hop, garage psyche and trip hop.





By the mid-90′s Acid Jazz had revived the careers of legends like Terry Callier, Brian Auger and Gregory Isaacs, established three subsidiaries (Focus, All Seeing Eye and Roots to cater for progressive indie, drum and bass and roots and culture respectively) and signed yet another wave of successful independent artists which included the likes of Corduroy, Mother Earth, The Humble Souls, Goldbug and a dozen more.





In 1994, the label took the plunge and opened the first ‘non-house’ based night club in London. Based on the site of the Bass Clef, a down-at-heel and eventually semi-derelict jazz club in Hoxton – perched precariously amidst the second world war bomb sites, derelict buildings and culture-free zone, the club was credited with paving the way for the whole Hoxton/Shoreditch explosion of the late nineties. Indeed, the club was rarely less than full seven nights a week hosting events from the likes of Goldie’s Metalheads, Talvin Singh, Coldcut, Ab-ashanti, Athletico and the label’s own Magic Bus. The Blue Note closed its doors at the end of the decade and Acid Jazz went back to what they do best: releasing records.

Jumping forward to 2014 and we find the label firmly ensconced in their office at the top of Brick Lane and after celebrating their 25th Anniversary the label is as vibrant and vital as ever. The current roster includes the critically acclaimed, prog folk fusions of Matt Berry, new indie hopefuls Dexters, the soul meet the Streets stylings of New Street Adventure and ex Bluetones lead singer Mark Morriss, whilst the highly acclaimed Rare Mod series has discovered and released previously unknown works by everyone from The Riot Squad featuring David Bowie to the Small Faces Steve Marriott.

In short after over a quarter of a century Acid Jazz remains one of the UK’s most important independent labels.


Launched in 2010, THE REFLEX is a project from producer / DJ Nicolas Laugier, a French national based in the UK since 1998. Following on the footsteps of remix / DJ edit pioneers Larry Levan, Shep Pettibone, François Kevorkian or John Luongo, The Reflex somewhat redefined the remix rules book by using stems and multitracks to craft fresh, innovative versions (dubbed ’revisions’) from classics tracks and artists, genre-hopping through the decades and styles with ease, combining creativity and functionality with often spectacular results.
With constant support from superstar DJs, tastemakers, A-list artists and creatives to high profile brands / events through to bedroom DJ’s, The Reflex revisions are now part of the musical landscape.

Clocking over 100M+ streams, The Reflex is a multi-faceted artist that has lent his skills to ads for Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, to remixes for the biggest names in pop and dance music, to extensive catalogue revisits for the likes of London Records, Salsoul/Westend and Zagora/Because, to a long standing collaboration with Noel Gallagher and to legendary artists like Joe Walsh (Eagles), Cerrone, Kathy Sledge, Blondie, Michel Polnareff, Nile Rodgers, Rita Lee, Kid Creole and more.
Boasting a strong online following and a loyal fanbase, including 322,000+ fans on YouTube, The Reflex is now ready to move into original productions; his first artist track “Weekend” has been snapped up by Glitterbox for release in May, with Ibiza / Malta gigs and a Defected Basement mix lined up to support the arrival of this first single.
On his own vinyl label Discolidays, The Reflex has collaborated with Because Music in Paris re-imagining the catalogue from (Daft Punk) Thomas Bangalter’s father, Daniel Vangarde, and his label Zagora while showcasing his remix work for Cerrone, Patrice Rushen, D.C. LaRue, Nile Rodgers ft Nubiyan Twist, Bruise and others to commercial and critical acclaim.

As a DJ, The Reflex sets are energy-packed workouts firmly rooted into disco / house / balearic territory somewhere between trainspotters’ paradise and revision anthems, with an ability to adapt to audiences and venues through his 20+ years DJ experience.

Polly and the Billets Doux are something different. The genre-defiant quartet began life in the middle of a smoky Winchester backroom in 2006, performing totally unamplified to a full-capacity audience. Their distinctive sound combines elements of jazz, blues, country, folk, soul and gospel to create a sumptuous and totally unique sound with a quintessentially English twist.

The band are known for their flawless and energy-filled live performances, and over the past couple of years they’ve embarked on headline tours up and down the country – from Ullapool to Brighton, and almost every city in between – and played to critical acclaim at festivals large and small, including Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk Festival, Secret Garden Party and Larmer Tree in 2011.

Polly And The Billets Doux self-released their debut album ‘Fiction, Half-Truths & Downright Lies’ via independent label Bleak Mouse Records in 2009. They charted at number 21 on the BBC Radio 1 Indie Chart and gained recognition from BBC national radio and regional stations throughout the UK, including Bob Harris and Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2. Over the past year, the band have received regular plays on BBC 6 Music, including through BBC Introducing’s Tom Robinson.

Throughout 2011, Polly and co have continued their relentless UK touring, picking up fans and praise wherever they go. Highlights in recent months have included a feature in The Sunday Times Culture and a support slot with Fun Lovin’ Criminals. The next year looks to be their biggest yet, with a summer of festivals ahead and a second album in the works for release in 2012.

The Correspondents consist of singer Mr Bruce and producer Chucks. Both growing up in South London, they formed in 2007 and within two years had taken their hi-octane genre-blending dance music from house parties to festival main stages. 

The show that quickly established the duo as one of the best live acts in the UK (The Telegraph's top 10 Highlights of Glastonbury in two consecutive years) has the monochrome clad Mr Bruce singing with force, scatting at speed and dancing like his life depends on it while Chucks takes the audience on a journey through a multitude of genres from jazz and blues to the nether regions of electro and drum’n’bass. 

Their music releases are just as varied in style and influence. Steve Lamaq says of their 2014 album Puppet Loosely Strung that "Every time I think I've deduced what they sound like they start sounding like something different". 2016 will see a flurry of new releases in the build up to their next album with the same smorgasbord of dancefloor friendly musical treats.

Aside from the music itself The Correspondents have become renowned for their videos that are consistently unique in aesthetic and pioneering in technique. The band are renound for making videos created by in-camera, hand made and analogue processes. These range from meticulously hand drawn animations by Mr Bruce himself or collaborations with Naren Wilks who invented a 'composite camera' technique to describe a space in which synchronised multiples exist in a rotationally symmetric, kaleidoscopic dimension! It won them a UK Music Video Award and Best Production at The Berlin Music Video Awards. 

Recent developments have seen the duo expanding their live show to a include a full band with drummer, bassist and organist. And they have teamed up once again with director Naren Wilks to produce a mind-blowing composite camera audio-visual show. 





Blow Up Records is a London based independent record label that was started in 1994 by Paul Tunkin, founder and promoter of the legendary Blow Up club (1993-present). The first release was a ltd 7" for Paul's band The Weekenders, which lead to releases for other acts and compilation albums. Music on the label ranges from 60s to New Wave, from Pop to Electronica; pretty much reflecting and complementing the sensibility of the Blow Up club.

The Blow Up label is responsible for compilations such as the ground-breaking "Exclusive Blend" music library series, 'Blow Up A-Go-Go: Dancefloor Classics' and several series of limited seven inches featuring bands from across Europe and the UK. Blow Up released the first Add N to X album as well as albums for recent acts such as Big Boss Man, The Bongolian, Baltic Fleet, Silvery, Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck, Neon Plastix, Alfa 9 and more reflecting the label's continuing eclectic output. Blow Up Records also have a publishing arm Blow Up Songs which publishes the majority of works that the label now releases. Blow Up are also the same team that promotes live concerts and clubs for the Metro Club on Oxford Street, London. (Please go to the venue myspace for bookings etc.) Blow Up also released 'Blow Up A-Go-Go: Dancefloor Classics' inconjunction with V2 Records in 1999.

2009: This June Silvery follow up last year's releases with their 5th single 'The Nishikado E.P.' and Sweden's Mockingbird, Wish Me Luckk release their second single 'Moves On The Screen'. Big Boss Man will be releasing their eagerly awaited 3rd album this Summer - stayed tuned for more details soon! 2008: 2008 has been the most release-packed year yet for Blow Up with several debuts including the Kraut Rock inspired Baltic Fleet (his self-titled debut No. 29 Rough Trade's Top 50 Albums of 2008 & in Piccadilly Records Top 100 Albums of 2008), London artrockers Silvery (album 'Thunderer & Excelsior' No.19 Artrocker's Albums of The Year 2008, a BBC 6Music Album of the Day and more) and indie-pop from Sweden's Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck ('Days Come And Go' album placed in one of the Top 4 Albums of 2008 lists in Sweden's national daily Sydsvenskan and described as "an album to pay attention to" by AllMusic). Big Boss Man's Nasser Bouzida also found time to release the third album by his alter-ego The Bongolian ("A Latin-flavoured jazz-funk odyssey" Q magazine) which has been winning fans worldwide.

2007: The ever prolific Mr. Bouzida has just finished mixing his third Bongolian album with Nick Terry (SMD, Klaxons, Libertines) so stay tuned for this release, and new signing Baltic Fleet who is currently mixing his debut with Nick too. Sticking with the album theme we are reissuing our 'Blow Up presents Exclusive Blend' series (a relief as some have been fetching up to £100 on eBay!), and nicely timed too as The KPM Allstars featured on Volumes 1 and 2 were chosen to perform at Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown this June.

2005-2006: Over the last couple of years the we've released several one-off singles for Swedish bands CDOASS and Strip Music, and UK acts Eight Legs and The Rifles (Blow Up 45 Series). We also released singles for Doncaster electro/pop group Neon Plastix and saw the Big Boss Man track 'Party 7' picked up for Nike's worldwide World Cup campaign. Their 2001 album 'Humanize' that this was taken from was previously used as the soundtrack for the 1999 short film 'Sweet' featuring the Mighty Boosh too (available for the first time this year). We also released the long-awaited follow-up to The Bongolian's first album in 2006 'Blueprint', as well as the debut album for new psychedelic signings Alfa 9 titled'Then We Begin' which was recorded with Liverpool based producer Mike Cave.
