I met Jon Rust a couple years back while hanging with Ben UFO in London. Ben had brought me to a party in some small basement of a bar and Rust and his crew were throwing down no holds barred. It didn't matter, from house to disco to boogie to techno...moving all in a rugged and raw fashion...it was djing how it should be...and the crowd was most definitely feeling it. I was impressed. A couple mojhitos later we were shooting the shit and the rest was history. Jon Rust is no stranger to the people of London as an NTS resident dj, he also runs the always adventerous Levels label (which you can check out here https://soundcloud.com/levels-5). Mr. Rust mixes the latest installment of the podcast series and as you can hear does a very nice job behind the desk. Check out Jon in a club near you and for more info check below.

Jon Rust is a real DJ’s DJ. With roots in London’s club heritage and an approach to DJing which reflects that, Rust draws inspiration from the city's rich diversity and no-holds-barred approach to music. This is also backed up by the fact that he has hosted a deliciously diverse show on NTS since the stations first week of broadcasting -  "No Boring Intros". Rust also runs his own label, Levels, where he has put out music from Lord Tusk and Ajukaja, amongst others.

His 75 minute mix for us proves why this Londoner is so admired: it wastes no time in setting a nice house vibe with the use of plenty of unusual tracks, unknown gems and unlikely grooves. From bumping and dirty to down and deep, he manages to tie all these different strands together into something truly thrilling.

The music Aurora Halal creates is informed by many different disciplines. She is a producer, but also a videographer and visual artist who has worked on films about modular synth godfather Morton Subotnick amongst others. She is also the force behind Brooklyn’s Mutual Dreaming party series as well as the Sustain-Release festival. In just a couple of years she has cooked up an expressive and experimental techno sound—solo and with the likes of Ital—on labels such as Lovers Rock and her own Mutal Dreaming Recordings. Oppressive and foggy, her distorted, imperfect sounds made up of heavy drums and scurrying synths have taken her to plenty of remarkable live gigs all over the world. Now she steps up to our mix series with equal aplomb.

First 100 mins of my set from the opening night of Ben UFO's XOYO residency(Full SPRING '18 programme benufolondon.co.uk)

Joy & Ben were running b2b all night long downstairs, setting off on a 160 trip, so here's me setting the alternative to that as people came into the club.

Ben and I have been friends for over 10 years, from early trips to FWD>> and my time as resident at Detonate in the midlands in the mid 00's. At our Standard Place and Lightworks parties Ben never failed to slay, so was an honour to be included on the lineup for his opening night of these London shows.

Being able to start a room from silence is a great opportunity to take your time in setting the tone for the rest of the night, something I appreciate greatly from my times as a resident myself and from my time working at Plastic People.
