Amazing! Very similar to one of my favorite artists, Zachary Bruno ( https://soundcloud.com/zacharybrunomusic ). I am hoping to move into piano music as well in coming months, and this gives me even more ideas . . .

This piece is inspired by a traditional song called There Was A Maid in Her Father's Garden

The piece „Gegutė sode, sode kukavo“ (2020) is based on traditional Lithuanian multipart folk song sutartinė which in 2010 was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO). The piece has born from patriotic feelings for my homeland and gratitude of learning Lithuanian folklore since my early childhood.  

The piece is about a cuckoo which is a prophet of spring and light. In the Lithuanian folk tradition, cuckoo is an important character which secures the destiny of your life. It is like a protection and a guarantee that everything what should happen in your life, sooner or later will happen. Therefore the whole May ( „May“ in Lithuanian is “gegužė“, cuckoo – “gegutė“) people were dancing and singing songs for this magical bird: 

Gegutė sode, sode kukavo; 
Gegutės pilkos, pilkos plunksnelės; 
Gegutė meilus, meilus paukštelis; 
Gegutės skardus, skardus balselis. 

Cuckoo was singing in the garden, in the garden; 
Cuckoo has grey, has grey feathers;
Cuckoo is a lovelly, is a lovelly bird; 
Cuckoo has a sharp, has a sharp voice.

The piece was performed by Vilnius Municipal Choir Jauna Muzika (conductor Vaclovas Augustinas)
