Los Angeles DJ/Producer Jose Marquez’s sound is a result of being brought up around Afro-Latin, Caribbean and other World Music at a young age. Always intrigued by electronic sounds as well, Jose's mission has been to fuse his love of global rhythms with the dance floor. Jose indeed succeeded when he burst onto the scene in 2010 with memorable remixes & edits of artists such as Celia Cruz, Nina Simone, Oumou Sangare and many others.

In less than two years time, Jose was blessed with the opportunity to introduce his sound to the world by remixing for renowned Housemusic labels such as Tribe Records, Djoon Experience, Vega Records, Yoruba Records, Wonderwheel Recording and most recently, the iconic label from the 70’s responsible for all the Salsa and Latin music out of New York City, Fania Records!

Since then, he continues to travel the globe uniting nations on the dance floor with his signature sound having performed at major events in cities such as Paris, Athens, Toronto, Los Angeles, NYC, Melbourne, Nairobi, Morocco, Singapore, Shanghai, Peru and Cuba

Mario Mars aka heathenBEAT is a Chicago based DJ & creative w/ a goal of blurring genre lines within global dance rhythms while keeping focus on Dance Music’s linear history & foundational sound culture unique to Chicago’s House roots. 

Mars was born in LA, raised in St. Louis, and groomed in visits to New York. Early years involved Punk venues, Industrial music, & focus on international nightlife & arts. Taken under wing by elders in his mid/late teens his tastes evolved to include Chicagoans Larry Heard and Jersey’s Tony Humphries who he credits as the club music Godfather who turned him out. An avid record collector to this day he began familiarizing himself with spinning in early 90’s & became a known dancer in warehouse, lofts, and after hours. Around this time he was asked to curate mixes for a college station and focused on obscure international club music.  He still spins records preferably. 

Around 2012 Mars established a friendship w/ the Chicago based collective, Excursions, helmed by DJs Cordell Johnson & James Vincent. After relocating to Chicago he began hosting their wildly successful gathering rooted in Chicago but branched out in Japan, Detroit, & Atlanta. Artist like Jay Daniel, Jose Marquez, Marcellus Pittman, Antonio Ocasio, Loftsoul & countless others were guest at staple venues that include the infamous annual Detroit gathering at the Russell Bazaar Warehouse that drew thousands. 

Pivoting to individual pursuits Mars dove into the craft of DJing as nightlife closed in pandemic. Numerous mixes spurred invites to session from elders like Andres (Specter) Ordonez. These sessions inspired still ongoing gatherings that have seen Chicagodeep, Julion De'Angelo, Chicago Skyway, Noshaluv & other selectors & friends. 

A unique sound he affectionately calls heathenBEAT, Mars prefers a slow-paced, low to ground, slung & intoxicating rhythm that pushes a muddier Detroit sound meshed w/ Chicago’s deep & moody house origin. His roots in Punk often lend to sets going left into unpredictable stretches of obscure & hidden gems. heathenBEAT, which he also calls coarse or irregularity, is music, and way of presenting it, that goes against grain & norms. 

Mario Mars features on domestic & international radio, been booked as remote as Lima Peru, billed on lineups alongside Tony Humphries, Rich Medina, Specter, Damon Lamar, Jose Rico & appeared at Silver Room Block Party, Podlasie Club, Bronzeville Winery, & other esteemed spaces.

Now, 101 Apparel has been working with the cream of the crop DJ’s, artists and producers to fuse the music and the designs into a unique artistic document. We are currently undertaking doing a limited edition “101 Apparel Artists Series” where we collaborate with our favorite artists and ask them to do a mix CD of exclusive material for 101 Apparel. These are one of a kind mixes that come with a specially designed shirt that expresses the artists’style while keeping the 101 legacy intact. Cur- rently the collaborations include an exclusive mix by producer-artist-DJ, Nightmares on Wax (funk, soul, hip hop breaks). A collaboration with Wax Poetics that brought us world renowned DJ and collect ors Kon and Amir ( this mix focuses on rare disco and Latin). An exclusive mix by Dj-producer Lono (Chicago/NYC) entitled a “Disco Unusual Social Club Mix”. A mix and shirt with producer, DJ, and artist, Quantic (Tru-Thoughts). An exclusive mix and shirt with the modern funk ambassador Dam Funk (Stones Throw). A design collaboration with the legendary latin label Fania Records. A shirt paying tribute to Tony Allen ( Fela Kuti’s drummer) with an exclusive mix of unreleased Tony Allen tracks by DJ Rich Medina. Next in line is a shirt and DJ mix by up and coming producer and musician Chico Mann (Wax Poetics Records) and a special collaboration shirt and DJ mix by Jeedo (Waajeed, Bling 47).
