Another composition recorded before the war. I hope one day I will return to my home studio. Any support from you is much appreciated on these extremely hard times for our country, our family. 
I could have recorded much new music for the last 9 months... unless russians came to our yard to "save" us with their tanks, missiles, bombs and war planes at 4 a.m. on Feb 24th. And yes, they saved us from our house, from our normal life, from our dreams and plans. They saved my elderly parents from their home and peaceful life in retiring, saved my daughter from happy childhood, from school, from her friends and vacation by the sea. We'll never forget and never forgive it! I'm sure that russia will get what it deserves - each rocket they launch on Ukraine will turn to another 10 years of disaster for their cowardly people.

Some time ago, I needed to do some thinking about my DTM system and was reviewing my music data.  At that time, I suddenly noticed this song by Mrs Rhymes.  About a year ago, I think.  I had a preliminary recording of my guitar to go along with this wonderful piece.  Remembering that, I played it back and listened.  I didn't like my guitar playing, even though it was just a temporary recording for notes.  I don't think the sounds and phrases I used at that time match the original song.  Compared to that, the original song is still great.  So I grabbed my guitar and started recording.  A few hours later, I was in the process of uploading my freshly finished work here.

The key of this song is C#, and I think that what we should be aware of as a performance style is "B♭m/C# pentatonic".
I do not mix tapping, sweeping, or other fancy playing techniques in my guitar playing with this outstanding piece. I tried to keep the accompaniment very simple. This excellent piece, which I picked up as an example this time, will be finished with two things in mind: "B♭m/C# pentatonic". However, in a blues scale song, one song uses four pentatonic forms. Therefore, first of all, I believe that it is very important to be aware of "two things" on a daily basis and to practice guitar playing repeatedly.

And before we understand it in words, what we value most is the encounter with works and artists that we can continue to enjoy playing along with our favorite music as many times as we want, even ten times if necessary. Right?

Hot Sand - Open Collaboration Offer

This is a song that I created with a few different songs in mind, most prominently Us and Them and Deep Blue Day. I needed drums, though, so I sent it to my friend Ken who added those and some acoustic guitar--exactly as I wanted them to sound. Then I sent it to Tez who added a ripping electric guitar. He also produced and mixed the whole thing. And what an expert job he did, as always. For anyone paying attention, this is a remix of the song A Separate Reality we all released two weeks ago. it's less heavy on the electric guitar and heavier on the keys. The desired effect is that it's a more relaxing version. We hope it has that effect on you!

Mixed Up Reality (with Llanpsych and K2 and the Three [and Four])

Phil Chris sent me this song, which was little more than a beat and some chords. I then added some bass, guitar, piano, organ, and synth. Then, I sent it to Tez to work his magic on the board. he came up with two very distinct mixes. The first one, which I already posted, has two beats in it, so it sounds like a heartbeat, and it is very guitar heavy. This mix really focuses on the organ. It almost sounds like a different song, imo. I hope you all enjoy the remix.

The Shining - Llanpsych redrum mix (with Computart [Phil Chris])

Hello… so have you ever noticed certain things about yourself that never change? This song, ‘Just Like I Always Do’ is about that very thing. I found myself  outside the other day, playing with rivulets of snow melt. Making channels with a rake, for the water to run down and I laughed… my feet were soaking wet and I was having a grand old time. Reminded me of a time in kindergarten, when I arrived late to school, soaked to the bone, as I was playing in the rain along the way. So that playful side of me has not changed at all. I also noticed, like flowing water, how vital it is for me to keep moving. A fluidity when it comes to living and learning about life. Recently, singing has been like that for me. Bear with me on this. A little backstory: As a kid, I had a brief stint in my middle school choir. I did not want to join the choir, that’s for sure. The music teacher had picked us out, after brief singing auditions. After our first performance, my mother, God rest her soul, told me I did not have to go back to choir anymore, if I did not want to. Out of the 50 kids on stage, I was the only one not singing. I just looked down so no one could see my mouth… except my eagle-eyed mom. Simple as that, I was done with it. There were other things I wanted to do as a precociously rebellious kid, running around the neighborhood, as it were. Now, half a century later, I have been learning to sing on my own. It has not been easy uncovering that latent voice of mine. Looking back, sometimes I wish I had stuck with it as a kid. So about a decade or so ago, this dude I worked with asked me if I’d show him some stuff on guitar. His mom was a musician and music teacher and he grew up with music in his life. He was always singing and playing guitar. As we hung out, he noticed I never sang and asked me why. After basically dodging his question, he told me the only thing stopping me from singing was me. Talk about a hard lesson to swallow. So now, bringing us up to speed, I had some fun exploring my nascent singing voice on this song. The image is of me and Garnet running the hills in early Spring. Devastated by Gildor's failed attempt to help her escape from the castle, Raewyn begins her own search for freedom. She discovers a small lever set into the wall in the far corner of the tower. As she pulls the lever, a hidden door opens creakily and she finds herself in a dark passage, water dripping from the roof. The end of the passage opens up into a large cavern, with a mysterious golden light shining in the distance - A Portal! But does it lead to good or evil?

Short track exploring hip hop genres, with help from two little pixies inhabiting home lately. Sick part in the middle was generated from a Fibonacci series, proving there is order in any chaotic system. Only a stupid would have played guitar on that mess… so I did. Pic taken under a bridge in my hometown.

Too Much Talk

A trip down to Rosarito did not go according to plan. From leaving my phone in a taxi, to discovering my bank account is frozen, getting arrested in the hotel lobby over a little taxi misunderstanding, spending the night in jail, paying the cop forty dollars to let us sneak out the back door, hitchhiking back to the boarder while insanely hungover... You could not possibly fit it all into one song. A vacation to remember.

Gloomy - You Make Me Happy

Firstly on easy listening 6/4 bars, I cut some notes out of the main theme so as to give it dynamism, and finally obtained a prime amalgam of 17 quarter notes. I hid any recognizable thing in the accompaniment, and for the organic lines (voice and guitars) I tried the strong rhythm would not fix too much the melodies, first paying a lot of attention, and finally ... just letting me go.

Welcome to my page, my peers, associates, friends, and musical family. I'm a lifelong, multi-instrumentalist musician who records prolifically and joyfully. You'll hear me play guitar, bass (regular four string, and four and five string fretless), mandolin, banjo, keys (piano, organ, synth), lap slide, sitar, and sing on my recordings here. I've been in a few dozen bands in my life, playing everything from bluegrass, jazz, rock, jam band, reggae, funk, afrobeat, Middle Eastern, traditional Irish, singer/songwriter, pop/covers, to experimental/avant garde. 
  Since I found SoundCloud a couple years ago, I've found many talented, creative people with whom to create music. However, in the summer of '23 I formed a band called The Eclectic Collective with some of my favorite musicians I've met through here. It started as a loose collective of musicians and coalesced into a core group of musicians who find other musicians with whom we'd like to make music, then run their songs through our process, and in effect add a full band. That core of The Eclectic Collective includes Tez (Llanpsych), J.J. Terrel, Ken (K2 and the Three), Stephen (Texmex Shaman), Chris (cgmaness), and Mark (mistermark). A couple of other musicians are frequent collaborators, as well, including Artur of Surfers Like Us, and Steve Vervaet of Steve's World. More recently, we've been joined by Carl of The Beautiful Dark fame. 
  The magic of music is amplified exponentially by each person adding to it. So, we really try to add our sorcery all kinds of music from all kinds of artists. Sometimes, we keep it within the group, but a lot of what we do is collaboration with other artists. Therefore these days, 100% of what I do is collaboration, within the group or with other artists on the side.
  I, and we, are also available for hire if you have a song or lyrics and you really want to add bigger instrumentation or a band and good production to it. 
  A small sampling of the artists whom I consider primary influences, and whom you will hear coming through my fingers include Phish, The Flaming Lips, The Grateful Dead, Radiohead, Rye Cooder, Steve Earle, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, Arcade Fire, Mikey Dread, Yellowman, Purpleman, The Meditations, Michigan and Smiley, Lee Perry, Dillinger, Django Reinhardt, Impossible Recording Machine, The Allman Bros Band, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Bela Fleck, Les Claypool, Sam Bush, David Grissman, John Prine, Talking Heads, Beastie Boys, MMW, Moe., Morphine, Ween, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald, John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, John Scofield, Victor Wooten,  Cannonball Adderly, Thelonious Monk, Flea, Parliament Funkadelic,  Frank Zappa, Prince Paul, Pete Rock, Thievery Corporation, Amon Tobin, Chet Baker, Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Carol Kaye, Tame Impala, Mumford and Sons, Japanese Breakfast, LCD Soundsystem, Beach House, Sean Lennon, and Billy Strings, but of course there are many more. I also really like and am influenced by traditional Iranian, Palestinian, Indian, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Mauritian, Somalian, Egyptian, West African, and Syrian music. I welcome anyone who plays non-western music to contact me for a collaboration, too.
 I'm overjoyed to have found my community on SoundCloud. This is a truly unique forum where everyone is sincerely trying to build each other up. The profoundly supportive and positive SoundCloud community has really opened up an exciting new world of collaboration for me. That is the main reason I'm in the Cloud, actually, to connect with other musicians and make music that I enjoy listening to, and hopefully others do, as well. I am ALWAYS looking to collaborate with interesting musicians, mostly though BandLab, which is where I record almost exclusively. It's a solid, free digital audio workstation hub where you can share recording projects, even if it's not where you make your recordings.
  Everything I do is live instrumental, not programmed, and using no computer beyond my phone. That's not to say that I would be opposed to using that kind of tool, it's just not my preferred medium with which to paint. If you like my music, please share it.
