I absolutely love this song.  so much symbolism in the writing both with the lyrics and music composition. I love the choice of instruments.  and I love your voice!

The Voyage

Original song about the true story of my tiny 4'11" pioneer grandma, Amy Loader, dancing in the snow to help her girls get out of bed when she had just lost her husband on the trek and her daughters were on the brink of starvation and freezing. I was told this lovely, inspiring story from a tiny girl and decided to write a song about it.

Huddled in the dreary morn
The winter’s early snow
Sleeping on the hardened ground
Such cold I’d never known

Our tent was barely standing
Our neighbor’s tents caved in
Another day to starve and freeze
Let misery begin

I heard my mother calling
To help her start a fire
She pleaded with each daughter
But not one could find desire

Mama pursed her lips
“Girls, this simply will not do!"
She put her tiny hands on hips   
"I’ll have to dance for you!"

I remember Mama 
Dancing in the snow
Her frozen feet so full of life relieved our weary load

Smiling through her sorrow on this path of faith she chose

Her tiny hands she threw up high
The cold air froze her breath
Her feet were light and happy
As she danced to challenge death

She started with a jig from home
She sang a merry song
She had no husband, food, or gold
But her heart and soul were strong  

She sang and danced and twirled around
Until we all had smiles 
We lifted up our weary heads
To bravely face our trials

Suddenly she slipped on ice
And fell onto the ground
We all cried out, and rushed to help her 
Gathering around  

She sat there in the snow and ice 
A broad smile on her face
Delighted with her merry plan
Relieved, we all embraced

I knew I couldn’t have my girls 
Just giving up the fight
The journey’s long and weary
But, through faith, our hearts are light
