Description: I composed this track for the indie game, Inflorescence, an entrant in the Ludum Dare 34 Game Jam. The game was created by Wesley Elridge (@prismaslice) over one weekend in December in the cold, rainy city of Seattle.

This is a playlist of my video game related music.

The first track, "SolTera Theme Song" is the theme song for an upcoming post-apoc, crafting, voxel-based FPS I'm working on through Myth Tech Studios: www.mythtechstudios.com

The next two tracks are part of a full soundtrack I'm composing for a non-existent, modern, indie-style game, inspired heavily by Darren Korb's soundtrack for the game, Bastion ("Somber Souls..." is in progress).

The fourth track, "Sick Game," is a game-nostalgia-metal tune for which I wrote the lyrics and composed & produced the vocals. The composer of the music and I are planning to produce a full song based on this short tune.

The next five tracks are all 8-bit NES-style chiptunes; The track, "Mötæ - Shutter..." is an 8-bit, note-for-note replication of a tune by a band with which I formerly sang and composed. The other four songs are original compositions intended to convey different classic game styles.

"Super Mario Chipstep" was the first song I wrote in FL Studio after about a decade of being away from electronic music production. The focus was on trying to learn a bit about NI's Massive while having fun sampling from Super Mario Bros.

The Wake Up

I made this sound recording of a frozen lake in the winter of 2005/06 in the area around Berlin. Frozen lakes are known to give off most noise during major fluctuations in temperature: the ice expands or contracts, and the resulting tension in the ice causes cracks to appear. Due to the changes in temperature, the hours of morning and evening are usually the best times to hear these sounds. In my experience, thin ice is especially interesting for acoustic phenomena; it is more elastic and sounds are propagated better across the surface. Snowfall, on the other hand, has a muffling effect and the sound can only travel to a limited extent. The ice sheet acts as a huge membrane across which the cracking and popping sounds spread. Underwater microphones proved especially well-suited for these recordings: in a small hole drilled close beneath the surface of the water, the sounds emitted by the body of ice carry particularly well. The most striking thing about these recordings is the synthetic-sounding descending tones caused by the phenomenon of the dispersion of sound waves. The high frequencies of the popping and cracking noises are transmitted faster by the ice than the deeper frequencies, which reach the listener with a time lag as glissandi sinking to almost bottomless depths.
