Deepwibe Underground rounds out the month of March with a new single from label artist Kostya Outta. Upon making his label debut early last year, the Belarusian artist forged a strong bond with the Estonian imprint. The next twelve months saw Kostya deliver two singles and mix the first installment of Deepwibe Underground’s ‘Chapter One’ collection. 2022 has started in a similar fashion, with a recently released remix of fast rising Argentine Ric Niels and once again showcasing his DJ skills by mixing the second installment of the Chapter series. Now presenting his first original production of the year, Kostya returns to Deepwibe Underground with ‘Empathy’, alongside a remix from Francesco Pico.

Already a favourite of Eelke Kleijn, it is Kostya’s original which sets the tone with buoyant, funked up basslines and colourful melodies. With the summer season approaching this lands at an appropriate time as it’s balmy, effortless vibe seems perfectly suited for warm, sunny skies. Evolving musicality is likely its strongest suit, keeping your attention locked across the first act, before fully unleashing all of it’s poignant power during a transcendent break which will no doubt send people home with a smile.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Empathy’ is Francesco Pico. The Dutch producer and Magnitude Recordings label boss has been flourishing since returning to the electronic underground in 2018. In addition to key releases via Balkan Connection, BCSA, ICONYC and MNL, Francesco has rebuilt his Magnitude imprint on the strength of his own releases along with Analog Jungs, GMJ, K Loveski, Golan Zocher and Kamilo Sanclemente. Prolific and consistent since his return, Francesco now dials in a lively rendition of ‘Empathy’. Taking a cue from the original Francesco toughens up the groove with punchier beats and muscular basslines, while flashing percussion and lively rhythms bring additional bounce across the first movement. Emotion continues to rise during a well crafted break, as percolating arps and sizzling effects converge, before giving way to the groove for a resounding drop and powerful finish. A stunning remix from Francesco, which rounds out an excellent return to Deepwibe Underground for Kostya Outta. Don’t miss it.

As Meanwhile Horizons readies itself for an 18th impressive release, Matter and Eric Lune join forces for an Australian triple-tracker on “Starlight / Memory Burn / EyeAndYou”.

Both shining lights within the progressive fraternity, Melbourne-based Matter and Eric Lune are individually responsible for a plethora of high-profile releases on such leading imprints as Balance Music, Vapour Recordings and Proton Music. Now the co-founder of the Meanwhile brand joins forces with a label debutant as Meanwhile Horizons brings together Matter and Eric Lune for their collaborative debut.

Replete with trademark progressive house tropes, “Starlight” opens proceedings with a typically smooth and luscious sonic landscape. A heavy beat and shimmering percussive backdrop combine with rippling arpeggio to pave the way for a lead motif that takes centre stage. Full of warm feelgood overtones, subtle vocal textures build as layers of new melody and pitched synth effects create an elegant and blissful wall of sound.

“Memory Burn” offers a slightly faster-paced touch with its kick / snare combination and triplet hi-hat shuffle. A muted arpeggio soon enters the fray as its open filter cadence sits perfectly within the rhythmic backdrop. Adding dancefloor flavour, a smooth bassline sequence creates a stunning emotive atmosphere while a floating synth lead hits its zenith at the mid-point before dropping away to deliver a stunning new grooved bassline. Combining effortlessly in the second half, rhythm, melody and bass sizzle and sparkle in majestic fashion.

The final track finds a chunky rhythmic framework laying the foundation for a huge bassline groove to propel “EyeAndYou” into Ibiza dancefloor territory. Syncopated synth riffs sparkle while vocal flourishes and glassy keys create counterpoint melody aplenty as they pan across the stereo spectrum. The result is a delicate and effortless affair that resonates with a Way Out West / Jody Wisternoff air.

We then have our usual hard-hitter, Canø with his offering titled ‘Twin Koi'. The track features a massive rolling bass and swelling synth goodness as the track evolves. GYT (TT) delivers a memorable banger with this groove -induced track ‘4AM’ which definitely delivers on giving that top dancefloor buzz. Finally, Joshua Moreno gives us a very unique and savory production with his third installment in his “Into The Void” series.
