These two reels, 'Journey by Train' and 'Golden Egg', were written by the fiddle-player Joe Liddy, who was from Killargue in County Leitrim. Alan Reid, the banjo player on this track, is from the same area. Hearing about Liddy from neighbours and musicians led Alan to finding two published Liddy tunebooks, The Leitrim Fiddler, vols 1 and 2, which contained these two tunes. 

This track is taken from the Leitrim Equation 3 CD. The Leitrim Equation is a music residency in Leitrim running since 2006. A key part of the project is to support emerging musicians in Leitrim. Dónal Lunny, John Carty and Séamus Begley were the resident musicians involved in the project this year. Previous resident musicians include the groups Dervish and Lúnasa. Here is the 3rd track off our new album. The first hornpipe is the melody of an old Irish song 'The Pride of Petravore' that Shane learned from Enda Scahill of the amazing 'We Banjo 3'. The second reel we learned from Enda's brother Fergal called 'The Lads of Laois'. The final tune 'The sailor on the Rock' is a well-known traditional tune.
