Pilu is Indian evergreen raga, which uses all the chromatic notes, which all the notes have visitation rights. Pilu raga is performed late afternoon before sunset.

Mishra is a word from Sanskrit that means mixed, which allows tremendous scope for the artist to bring in melodic lines from other ragas. Mishra Pilu raga is full of devotion and piety by expressing the mesmerizing mix of emotions, which are an eternal source for human emotions: joy and sadness, longing, tenderness.

My intention was to create slow motion changes, which on the one hand are based on very strict patterns, and on the other hand – can hardly be noticeable.

The work was commissioned by the “The Night With…” with support from Creative Scotland and PRS foundation in 2021/2022.

The piece - an experimental setup - has a generative open form and no predetermined duration. The starting point of this work are 4 individual voices and electronics, each composed as a multi-dimensional matrix. This is broken down into individual electro-acoustic and instrumental fragments by algorithms and then newly reorganized and combined in various ways in each performance in different ways/evaluations - new forms, orders are formed (in several movements). Map is territory, territory is map.

After some party called High Speed, three DJs from the event came to the conclusion that even more speed was needed. This high-energy and constantly evolving mix was recorded as what could be called Afters with More Speed. @Marumiini @Narkomaahine

Microfauna II is part of a collection of instrumental, fixed media, and open score compositions I have produced for the interdisciplinary Moss Worlds project (University of Manchester) - a research project bringing together artists, botanists, literature scholars, geographers, and poets to explore the affective, botanical, and political aspects of urban mosses in Manchester. Each work attempts a refraction of an aspect of moss ecology, moss imaginaries, or human-moss relations. *** Taking as its starting point the rich variety of microfauna which make their home within and around moss communities, Microfauna II imagines a world of water, zipping and darting, whirling and clumping, zooming in (and out), flagella, cilia, chloroplasts, translucency, nematodes, tardigrades, and rotifers. It was composed using a technique of collaged free improvisations using field recordings, contact-mic’d mosses, acoustic instruments and electronics, processed through a series of semi-autonomous granulators in Max MSP.
