Fuzz guitars (D*A*M Meathead on the left, Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe on the right) processed through FutureVerb, using the ReverseOctUp echo mode to create a shimmered reverb sound. The shimmered reverb is processed by AutoPan in Live, generating a synth-esque trance gate sound.

L’histoire de [DG07] est née de la collaboration entre deux artistes : Andrea Giuliani, déjà reconnu sur la scène minimal, et Antonio Lombardo, un artiste émergent très prometteur. Conçu spécialement pour nous, cet EP explore à la fois les sonorités d’une minimal club et celles d’une dark minimal deep, offrant une expérience immersive et contrastée. À cela s’ajoutent deux remixes bien distincts signés Adam Ortiz et Henry Mood, tous deux originaires de Chicago.

Andrea Giuliani est un DJ et producteur italien né en 1986, reconnu dans la scène underground pour son mélange unique de minimal, house, deep tech et techno. Son style éclectique oscille entre des ambiances sombres, mentales et introspectives, et d’autres plus intenses et entraînantes, toujours guidées par une rythmique imprévisible. Au fil des années, Giuliani s’est produit dans des clubs et festivals à travers l’Italie, l’Europe et les Amériques, animé par le désir profond de partager l’essence de son univers sonore avec le monde.

Né et élevé à Chicago, Antonio Lombardo est un DJ et producteur émergent dont le parcours a commencé dès son plus jeune âge. Guidé par une volonté constante d’évolution et de maturité, son son et ses sélections musicales témoignent d’une grande finesse artistique. Le voir jouer en live est une expérience à part entière : ses sets sont entièrement improvisés, créés sur le moment pour faire vibrer le dancefloor. The story of [DG07] was born from the collaboration between two artists: Andrea Giuliani, already well established on the minimal scene, and Antonio Lombardo, a very promising emerging artist. Created especially for us, this EP explores both minimal club and dark minimal deep sounds, offering an immersive and contrasting experience.
Complementing the originals are two distinctive remixes by Adam Ortiz and Henry Mood, both hailing from Chicago.

Andrea Giuliani is an Italian DJ and producer born in 1986, known in the underground scene for his distinctive minimal, house, deep tech and techno sound. His eclectic style is often dark, mental, and introspective, yet at other times driving and intense but always guided by an unpredictable groove. He has performed at clubs and festivals throughout Italy, Europe, and America, driven by a desire to share the essence of his sound with the world.

Born and raised in Chicago, Antonio Lombardo is an upcoming dj and producer. Starting his craft at an early age, Antonio has stayed consistent towards evolution and maturity with his sound and dj selections. Seeing him live is an experience like no other. Curating improvised dj sets live on the spot that keep the floor moving. House, Disco, Minimal, and Techno are all the menu with Antonio. Keep an eye out for what he has in store next.

My first performance at Boston Modular since the meetups moved to synthCube in Waltham, MA.

Kick/snare are from a Plaits clone; hihats are distorted noise.
Bass is PGH Waveforms -> MA35; disting mk3 provides tape echo with feedback filtered by PGH Filter.
Korg SQ- 1 sequences the bass and clocks Batumi, which triggers the hi-hats and subdivides the tempo for triggering Plaits and toggling between kick and snare.

Boston Modular November 2025

Before there was English, or Latin, or Czech, or Hindi, there was a language that they all have in common, which we call Proto-Indo-European. Linguists have long been fascinated by the quest to get a glimpse into what Proto-Indo-European must have looked like through careful comparisons between languages we do have records for, and this very old topic is still undergoing new discoveries. 

In this episode, your host Gretchen McCulloch gets enthusiastic about the process of figuring out Proto-Indo-European with Dr. Danny Bate, public linguist, host of the podcast A Language I Love Is..., and author of the book Why Q Needs U. We talk about why figuring out the word order of a 5000-year-old language is harder than figuring out the sounds, and a great pop linguistics/history book we've both been reading that combines recent advances in linguistic, archaeological, and genetic evidence to reexamine where these ancient Proto-Indo-European folks lived: Proto by Laura Spinney. We also talk about Danny's own recent book on the history of the alphabet, featuring fun facts about C, double letters, and izzard!

Radiophonic Sketch #1

An experiment using mixed LFOs and stepped random from the Ultra Random Analog to generate a melody, played on distorted sine waves from the Waveforms, with reverb, delay, and reverb from the Distings.  Plaits is used in harmonic mode for a second voice.

Generative Experiment 3

My first performance at Dorchester Art Project, using my Eurorack modular synth.

- The drums were Plaits into Terci Ruina, sequenced by a Korg SQ-1.
- The lead sound was a PGH Waveforms sent through a Manhattan Analog MA35 filter, modulated by a PGH Envelope, played on an Arturia Keystep.
- The plucky/fluety accompaniment part is randomly generated, using an SSF Ultra Random Analog run through an Intellijel Scales quantizer, using an ALM O/A/x2 to limit the range.  The sound was the other PGH Waveforms, run through the PGH Filter and VCA, modulated by the PGH ADSR.
- The white noise was the noise from the PGH Toolbox run through the PGH VCA.
- Effects were Disting stereo reverb, with Disting tape delay patched between the left/right channels (for reverb -> delay -> reverb, with a bit of bleed), and a Tall Dog Electronics uClouds for the final touch before going to the PGH Outs module.
- I used a Batumi for LFO duties (vibrato, PWM, and fading the white noise), and a Bubblesound Mix6 to submix the drums.  The PGH Mixer was used to mix all the parts before running them through effects.

Dorchester Art Project January 2020 Performance

I performed at Drone Day 2019 at Artisan's Asylum last year.  This year, I cobbled together a streaming setup and did my first 40-minute-long set live on Facebook, complete with multiple cameras and lighting.  Okay, so they were webcams and Philips Hue, but it was quite fun!
