I have been mixing goa for as long as a I can remember mixing anything. Since the early / mid 90's. For myself and for my friends, but mainly for the love of the music. In 2011 it seemed like a good time to look back over the past 21 years of goa trance's history - to archive what were, for me, the best trance that Goa and Psytrance could offer. 

This journey will take you back more than 21 years. Back further than proto goa, and up through the birth of new beat, trance, goa trance, psytrance, and the many many sub genres of trance music that is psychedelic. 

Get ready to dance, or chill out and listen with headphones... but please enjoy and give feedback.

21 years of goa-trance, part 6 - 1993-2007

Every time I start making another one of these journeys in to the history of goa and psychedelic trance I am always surprised. Surprised by the classics I stumble upon that I had, myself, forgotten about. Some of these tracks have truly shaped me as a person and have become a part of my being, as I am sure if you are familiar with them they have for you also. Looking back I am not sure how many more of these early - mid 90s journeys I can produce, but when I stumble across new gems like Visually Distoted from "Tandu" (their album, "Multimoods", released on Phonokol records in 1997 is astoundingly well produced!) but it makes me smile.. memories are great, but new old tracks that make new memories is just as good!

21 years of goa trance, part 7 - 1993-2009

This series has been centered on the classics of goa and psychedelic trance, but this trip we go back to proto-goa, and with the opening genre-defining masterpiece from 1982 proto-proto-goa. In 1982 I was 7, clearly too young to get what this new sounding music was. Hell in 1991 I was still discovering the evolving dance music scene here in the UK - unaware of the proto-goa movement that had happened in Europe and on the other side of the world. What amazes me is I thought I knew this genre, but again I find the proto-goa and new beat movements really defined the sound of the first wave of goa and then later psychedelic trance. 

This series is finally starting to move in to the more recent years, what are your thoughts on that? Would you prefer to keep it classic, or more recent?

This month's trip starts off in the early 90s commercial side of Goa Trance, as a scene it was at it's most popular thanks to the likes of Paul Oakenfold's Goa Mix, and tracks he published on the Perfecto label. From there we take the trip darker and my psychedelic with some glorious speaker breaking psytrance from the late 90s and the early naughties. Enjoy!

Goa is over 20 years old in the mean time. Time to have a retrodelic look! For this I dug in my huge cd & vinyl collection and decided to make a mix for every year for the period 1994-2015 to show the "new" generation of goa people how goa-trance evolved, and never really died ;)

This seventh mix is about 1998, mixed with 2 CDJ1000s and Pioneer djm300 (no lap top mixing involved!). Like usual, a serious challenge! All styles are captured in 1 mix... English hobbyist DJ and psytrance producer, his head in the clouds and his ears in the psychedelic back allies of the past. Decades ago jrb deejayed with tactile formats - vinyl, CD, mixing desks, now it's all done in software. Not live, non-destructive, remastered and spliced to high heaven. Earlier still jrb made music with the primitive fasttracker2 software music software for the PC, and ran music groups OnyxTrance (nxt), Blackhole (bh) as well as releasing for other internet module labels, such as Chill, Twist, and LoK. In between he released a few bootlegs (mixing vocals from one track with the backing from another track, with often hilarious results).
