Week 3 Prompt - Cold Morning Coffee

*Written in celebration of what would have been my Grandma Pat's 90th birthday. She was my favorite almost birthday buddy.*

early morning light
and i see my breath frozen on the air
my thoughts turn to you
as my mind fog clears
today would've been your birthday
and while i'm glad you didn't live
to see the hell of the last few years
i still wish you were here

finish my cold morning coffee and
head out the door
the sun shines brightly but
offers no warmth
the flowers at the supermarket
spring forth in all the colors you love
and everything i feel beneath this mask
in my throat all stuck

This is about burnout.  But I also think it fits with the current times of the pandemic, whether its loss of livelihood or jobs, loss of a loved one, isolation (social distancing), displacement and more.
